INTERNATIONAL TOURISM IN SPAIN by Full of the of School The (where the school is located) July 16, International Tourism in Spain Introduction What can be harder than reducing irresistible temptation of visiting new countries and seeing the world not from the screens of the computers or TV-sets but with own eyes? Spain is one of the countries that is in the great demand what puts more responsibility on it because it is not easy to gain popularity but it is even harder to keep the reputation. The proper conditions should be created for different social groups, including those ones whose budget is quite limited. One of the solutions for such visitors was proposed: using private accommodations and hostels sufficiently cuts expenses helping to save money for visiting more sightseeing instead of spending those funds for luxury hotel rooms. Low-cost transportation systems are also the way-out for keeping the cash safe and for finding a better use for it in a new and still unknown country. Today touristic branch is one of the most promising and influential ones and it is expected to be even more cost-effective in the future in spite of some unpleasant phases. Background The interest to international tourism has always been intense due to various reasons such as a wish for new experiences, learning new cultures and languages, trying new dishes or challenging oneself to get to know inner self. International tourism is so-called activity of visiting destinations that are outside of the habitual residence and traveling outside the borders of the country where a person lives. There is an important remark that staying in a foreign country within one year counts as a tourism but if this period of time exceeds, then it is deemed to be a residence. The definition of tourism can be international or domestic but the latter has been partially suppressed by the international one, however, they do relate to each other. The correlation of international tourism and tourists’ satisfaction is directly connected with the understanding of peculiarities that may affect curiosity and intense interest of the travelers. The impression from the provided services is one of the main aspects that inspire people to get back again to the country of their visit and to attract more tourists there sharing their emotions with friends and relatives. Understanding of such specialty may easily assist with the improvement of marketing along with the management decisions that would have a pleasant consequence for all the parties. Positive Impacts International tourism can be used as a stranglehold on different aspects of the government that is why learning how to stand to the maximum benefit from it can enhance the general position of the country. Due to the development of tourism, every year more workplaces are created that appears to be a necessity at struggle with unemployment. It is a big contribution into economical branch of the country. According to World Travel & Tourism Council (2014), Travel & Tourism generated 866,500 jobs directly in 2013 (5,2% of total employment) and this is forecast to grow by 3.4% in 2014 to 895,500 (5.3% of total employment). … By 2024, Travel & Tourism will account for 1,036,000 jobs directly, an increase of 1.5% pa over the next ten years. The investment of foreign currency into Spain also leaves a profitable imprint. Additionally, there is a great demand for charters as well as for other types of transportations that increase the budget by times. Living in a place, which is a popular travelling destination, raises consciousness of people that is guarding the environment. Both indigenous citizens and visitors of a foreign country are getting more attentive to the surrounding trying to keep it clean. As soon as tourism is a kind of an investment into the visited country, it is a contribution in the process of various programs development, whose aim is to save sightseeing and nature in its primevalness. Engaging more tourists is inspiring for the protection both of cultural conservation and nature. The socio-cultural effect of tourism also brings numerous positive effects that cannot be underestimated. Travelling is one of the most pleasant and joyful ways for establishing firm international relationship according to the means of alive communication and implementation into a culture of another country. It cultivates cultural awareness that helps with the interactions between the governments. The strengthening of national pride is at the top of beneficial consequences to which appreciation of historical events and traditions should be brought in. Negative Impacts The public purse starts growing proportionally towards the growing quantity of tourists attracted by Spanish temperament, nature and artistic atmosphere. On the face of it, this is a great premise but, mulling over the idea, the reverse side, which carries impact on economic field, is recognized as well. For instance, “all inclusive” tours are very appealing to the seekers of adventures what makes them less beneficial for a visiting country because their expenses are quite limited in such a situation due to the fact that they already have the most basic service package. The other unpleasant moment is that prices are set very high in places that are popular among the tourists. The wish to make more money out of tourists makes the citizens of those cities to suffer from higher prices than in other regions. Chasing for more tourists, there is a danger to fall into a trap because environmental factors also count and, unfortunately, not always the results are as appealing as it is expected. It does not matter what part of the world it is but there is no such a place where natural resources are unlimited. Pollution is a problem number one in the world even without any influence of tourism but this factor is emphasized by a great number of people making a journey by all means of transport. The nature is suffering changes because woods are getting cut out as more territory is required for new hotels, beaches are build up for creation of fashionable resorts and it is only the very beginning. When a person becomes a tourist, he or she starts looking for something drastically new and unknown. By the same token, a huge infrastructure of touristic business is constantly working on meeting peoples expectations and exigencies. Demand breeds supply but here it goes. Tourist may be a menace to Spanish culture because everything what is a part of a daily life and routine becomes a part of trade and commerce. The process of adjustment, counting on a magnificent feedback, is constantly in progress making some traditions change non-recoverably. It’s a shame but vandalism is one more point on the agenda because a huge number of tourists are trying to keep something from the place where they have been and far not always these are souvenirs. Additionally, people from other countries are the main target for thieves and robbers for whom the more crowds are, the better. From this point of view, tourism stimulates crime development. Socio-cultural factors as well as the ones mentioned above should be discussed more in order to find a solution of how to transform disadvantages into positive and profitable moments (UNEP n.d.). Future Predictions In comparison with the past, right now there is tendency of middle class development, which means that it is expected a bigger tourist traffic during the next several decades. The other reasons for the expansion of tourism is a change in the perception of the world: an increased interest towards other cultures has already took its effect and it is expected that there will be even more changes. At the present time international interactions are getting into a new level and now it is more common to have friends all over the world what is easy due to the social sites. As a result of all this, UNWTO (2014) claims that international tourist arrivals will increase by some 43 million a year, compared with an average increase of 28 million a year during the period 1995 to 2010. At the projected rate of growth, international tourist arrivals worldwide are expected to reach 1.4 billion by 2020 and 1.8 billion by the year 2030. Time will answer all the questions and will either approve or disapprove all the present suggestions. Conclusions Travelling became a business that is changing the “face” of the world because international tourism has influence both on people who are visiting new destinations and who are living in those places that never lack attention of the tourists from all over the world. The abnormal stream of the sightseers cannot be unobservable and, sad to say, but in some cases, changes they bring are destroying. In excuse of this fact, it should be mentioned that there are more positive impacts on economic, environmental and socio-cultural spheres. Being open for more tourists, Spain is getting enriched both economically and culturally due to social intercommunication with people from all over the world and investments that are contributed by means of visiting the country and spending the money for souvenirs, excursions and enjoying sightseeing. To sum it up, life is too short to postpone a chance to meet the world! Reference List UNEP n.d., Impacts of Tourism, viewed 15 July 2014, . UNWTO 2014, Tourism Highlights, viewed 25 July 2014, .
