Information Technology and Management Article Bibliography Greg Murphy. "Wireless Networking: The Road Ahead". E-Commerce Times 19 Jan 2007. Summary of the article Wireless Lan (WLAN) is the way most of the corporate houses in the country are going. WLAN come in multiple technology platforms like WiFi and others. And a multiple set of devices are also being used with these wireless systems like PDAs, laptops, etc., All these need to be integrated so that any change or growth in the company is seamlessly integrated with the existing networks. The future is moving towards wireless LAN systems. More and more users have started to rely on the WLAN for their enterprise connectivity. Therefore, the dependency specifically the security factor should be taken care of in the future. However, security like in any other system is dependent on the management of the network rather than on the network itself. Opinion of the article The article is moving towards the changes that are happening in the wireless LAN. This will bring the comfort of operating from anywhere a reality. More and more mobile units like laptops and PDAs make it mandatory for network providers to take care of the wireless connectivity. Therefore, the article indicates that the future banks on WLAN in one form or the other and it is also wise to move in that direction. Keywords Wireless LAN, WiFi, WiMax, security, management. Article 2: Bibliography Kennedy, Dennis. "Best Legal Practices for Open Source Softwar". itmWeb Media Corporation 16 Jan 2006. Summary of the article The author presents ten legal and practical issues in selecting open source software. The open source software dominates the happenings on the web as of the day. The selector should be weary of: 1. The different approaches in licensing 2. Understand General Purpose License 3. Source code is important 4. It should be compared with commercial software 5. Choosing the right software is more important rather than negotiating 6. Open source is different from Public domain. 7. It should be different from what is in the inventory already. 8. This needs training 9. There should be clear rules and policies in the company governing use of Open Source software. 10. This has to be implemented by the team. Opinion of the article The article talks of the number of hidden policies and small letters behind the open source system. There are a number of good things which outweigh any negatives if at all. However, the author brings to the fore the essential actions that a person going in for open source should do. This would ensure that there will be a long lasting peace for the buyer with the product. Keywords Open Source Software, legal issues, Tips. Article 3: Bibliography Will Hadfield. "Supply Chain Costs e-tailers Christmas sales". Computer weekly 16 Jan 2006 available at: http://www.computerweekly.com/Articles/2007/01/19/221297/supply-chain-costs-e-tailers-christmas-sales.htm Summary of the article The e-tailers have made merry during the Christmas season. More than 200 million parcels were shipped by the delivery companies within a span of seventy days. The business has grown more than 54% in comparison to what was being done in the earlier period. The e-tailers expected the pick up in the business but they were not really fully geared up for the sudden spurt during the Christmas season. Unless the supply chain is really organised and is set to take care of the delivery cycles, it is very difficult to realise the dreams of the e-tailers. Opinion of the article The article talks of the great thrust in the e-tailing business and the growth that is being witnessed. This is now rising at a phenomenal rate with all the festive seasons just passing by. The major issue with the e-tailers was therefore the supply chain management and this was the issue that did not allow them to rise further in their sales targets. The article points out this lacuna in the management of the e-business sites and this has to be taken care of if the business has to grow. Keywords e-tailers, Christmas sales, supply chain management. Article 4: Bibliography Jacqueline Kenney & Siegfried Gudergan. "Knowledge integration in organisations: an empirical assessment". Journal of Knowledge Management, Vol 10. Number 4. available at: http://www.managementfirst.com/knowledge_management/articles/integration.php Summary of the article Knowledge across the firm is scattered all around and the information used by one department is not immediately available for the use of the other. On most cases it is reinvented by them for their own use. A firm-level knowledge integration will ensure that the company responds swiftly to changes in the market place and in the technology front by suitably sharing the whole information across the company. This makes the firm-level knowledge integration much more important for any company. Such integration will affect the efficiency of operation by integrating, have strong strategic management implications and an equally important operational implications. Opinion of the article It is true that every company has their own internal knowledge that is further and away from an integrated environment of knowledge. There are more of islands than of integrated oceans of knowledge. This has an impact that will reduce the efficiency of operation by spending equal amount of time in reinventing at every stage. The article is bringing out a valid point in this sphere of knowledge management and implies that it is good to ensure that there is an integrated knowledge management available. Keywords Knowledge management, operation efficiency, integration. Article 5 Bibliography Tatiana Andronache. "Service oriented architecture". The Galt Global Review 1 Nov 2006. available at: http://www.galtglobalreview.com/infotech/service_oriented_architecture.htm Summary of the article The article writes about the service oriented architecture. The architecture follows a lego approach in building unit level building blocks which could be merged to make larger building blocks. These are again clubbed to form further increase in the problems that the architecture could solve. These solutions to problems are then integrated to provide much larger solutions. This can be viewed as the basic lego blocks that help in making larger ones which are in turn used to make still larger ones. This would ease the development standards which have become statutory like the SOX regulations, bring in an integrated development possibility enhancing inter and intra company collaboration and finally, makes it easy to adopt to open standards in the web. Opinion of the article SOA is certainly an optimiser. It optimises the amount of work done by the developers. By creating clear and working platform for the developers, the work done by the client company stands to gain. SOA brings in the expertise of multiple programmers to the final developers who bring them together to achieve their application need. This helps specifically in standard applications modules and these can be integrated in the applications to enhance uniformity and conformity across multiple applications. Keywords Knowledge management, operation efficiency, integration, service oriented architecture. Read More
