FDA Fellowship Admission I have always been fascinated by the field of health care that I deemed it was my destiny to become a medical practitioner. The fascination evolved into ultimate commitment and dedication to this profession as I gained increasingly challenging experiences ranging from instructing various medical courses, delving into clinical practice, and even working as a community volunteer. Through my professional journey, I have recognized that there are enumerable health concerns and issues in the area of public health that need to be addressed.

It is this drive that provided the impetus for my application for the Fellowship Program offered by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), in conjunction with both personal and professional goals. I share the same mission embodied in FDA’s mission statement, to wit: “The FDA is responsible for protecting the public health by assuring the safety, efficacy and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, medical devices, our Nation’s food supply, cosmetics, and products that emit radiation.

The FDA is also responsible for advancing the public health by helping to speed innovations that make medicines and foods more effective, safer, and more affordable; and helping the public get the accurate, science-based information they need to use medicines and foods to improve their health” (U.S. Food and Drug Adminisration (FDA), 2011, p. 1). The recognition for focusing my professional expertise in the field of public health was actually spurred from my previous volunteer works in HIV prevention and treatment in the city of Aneho in Lome (Togo, West Africa); in child and maternity health in the city of Tsievie in Lome (Togo, West Africa); in immunization campaign in Aneho, Togo; and through servicing underserved segments of the population.

Although sharing the same relevance in serving the needs of health compromised people in the private sector, the field of public health posed greater challenges in terms of trying to be an instrumental contributor to the betterment of the lives of a greater number of people. Likewise, I also realized that in putting my dedicated efforts in public health, I would be serving the needs, not only of my local community, but the medical breakthroughs are cumulatively applicable on a more global scale.

I remember clearly that as a child, I had a fair trip in a local community in my country (Cameroon) where I witnessed poverty and need for high quality healthcare provider for the underserved population. The vivid memory nurtured my love for the public health aspect of health care. Subsequently, I attended a lot of seminars in Cameroon, Benin, Togo, and Burkina Faso concerning HIV, malaria, child and maternity health. I have had research experiences in the area of clinical data management for research project.

Likewise, I also completed a research project concerning the pathway of patient in rheumatologic clinic at Tokoin Hospital in Lome, Togo. The past and current professional experiences strengthened by my academic background are appropriate requirements to make me eligible for the program. My great enthusiasm, innate drive, and deep concern to alleviate the plight of marginalized communities make me a worthy contender for the program. The agency’s approval of my application to the FDA Fellowship Program would be a fulfillment of my life’s ultimate goal – to further assist in the advancing and improving the health conditions of many.
