Entry Admissions: Business Administration ManagementMy name is Jeresjko Iljana. I graduated with honours in Business Administration Management in 2013. I have worked with a number of reputable organizations from 2008 to 2013 to amass great work experience which has helped me grow as a professional in so many enlightening ways. I served as a receptionist at various hotels like Radisson, Metropole, Europa Royale etc. I am happy to state that teamwork has always formed a permanent part of my life since high school.
I have always fancied the idea of working with other people and listening to their experiences and opinions. Due to gaining a diverse experience in the hospitality field, I came across many challenging teamwork experiences. One such huge experience involved me working at the hotel Europa Royale in Riga where I was in charge of the Front and Back offices. At Royale, I have learned a lot and worked with great people who helped me grow in many ways. Also, I got to teach my juniors also in some situation.
For example, it is employees’ duty in the hospitality sector to be polite and reasonable toward customers regardless of their temperament. This is called emotional labour which has great value in hospitality industry. On day my shift started with another colleague who was young and new at her job. We were both part of the same team and assigned the same task of welcoming and receiving an important guest. All the things were prepared in advance for check-in, but the guest appeared to be in a grouchy mood when he arrived due to some reason.
Now, it was our duty to receive him calmly and tolerate his bad mood without complains to project a positive image of the hotel we were affiliated with. However, my junior colleague, due to lack of experience, said something rude to the customer in reaction to his rudeness which created an unpleasant situation. I, on my part, played a positive role in this situation by covering up my colleague’s mistake and patiently listening to the guest until he left. I strictly restrained from reporting my colleague’s mistake to my general manager as this is against the spirit of teamwork.
Instead, I considered it a better option to guide my colleague on the Opera System.I managed to overcome an unpleasant situation due to tolerance which is one of the highest professional strengths needed by a responsible professional to be part of a team. It has always helped me in abundance to get along with my teammates. This is because being tolerant helps my teammates realize that I will always give them room to help them voice their opinions. I am strictly against suppressing someone’s voice to advance my personal interests.
I believe that the success of any project is embedded in teamwork and every member of a team should be willing to listen to others despite conflict of interests. Also, when my teams is preoccupied with making important decisions, I like to put myself in their place and think about certain puzzling concepts from their perspectives to develop a deeper understanding.
