It states that the main mission for a social worker professional is to aid all people in meeting their basic needs and advance on human well-being (Segal 2010 pg 42). This article describes my understanding of the NASW Code of Ethics and its relation to my social work. Integrity is an important personal value that relates to social work and NASW Code of Ethics. This enables social workers to act in a responsible and honest manner. They thus act in a mannerism consistent with the ethical practices affiliated to their professional organization (Barsky 2010 pg 67).
In my own person, experience integrity is a quality I seek in relationships and friendships. In my seven years as a pre-k teacher, I have exercised integrity in my work thus proving trustworthy to parents. Therefore, parents are sure I will exercise confidentiality when they divulge any information. Thus, when parents bring in their children they share even sensitive information about their children to me. This helps me in ensuring that the child receives appropriate care or attention. Competence is another personal value that significantly relates to NASW Code of Ethics.
Social workers should continually work to enhance their professional skills and knowledge and apply them practically. They should strive to enhance the knowledge bracket in their profession (Kirst 2009 pg 15). As I work with children on a daily basis, I have to be keen and observant of their behavior. If any changes occur, I should be quick to notice and discuss them with the parent. Prior to admitting a child into my care, I obtain a chart and form with all necessary information about the child from their parents.
This enables me have a general knowledge of the child. I can thus determine if the child needs more attention. Having raised three children of my own, I relate this experience in coming up with ways of dealing with each child. Thus, competence
