Clinical Supervision - Essay Example

This is one view of the clinical supervision in terms of participants, quality and purpose. Similar critical definitions can be given to clinical supervision based on different literatures. Supervision should not be confused with counseling as it deals with a person's inner perspective, helping the person achieve his/her true self. Whereas supervision deals with enhancing the knowledge and skill set of a person according to what their job needs. (Gail, D., 2009) There is a need to follow ethical principles during a clinical supervision process.

It is the responsibility of the top management to define the logistics, document the policies and allocate resources and time. It should be mutual agreement between the supervisor and the supervisee to maintain the discussions confidential. This is one of the important considerations for a successful execution of the process. No supervisee wants his fears and hopes to be opened out to everyone. It could result in utter failure. Also the supervisor needs to understand the ambitions of the supervisee and provide job related advice, helping them to attain their respective goals.

The organization should have a proper supervision scheme to follow with appropriate policies. The organization should support the clinical supervisors and boost their morale through financial assistance. One person with amicable experience in handling the whole process should be placed at the helm of the whole process. Since one to one interaction is always a tough and complex job to handle, the clinical supervisors need to be well trained prior to conducting any session. There should be supervision for the supervisors too.

The supervision process should be continuous one with the trained supervisors training new supervisors in turn and the process goes on ensuring constant growth of the organization. The supervisors also need to be aware of the resolutions that they need to take in case of dispute circumstances. At the end of the session, the program should be evaluated on three critical aspects. Firstly, to examine whether the session went on as planned and whether the objectives of the supervision were achieved.

Secondly, whether the process met the expectations of supervisee is examined. Finally, an analysis of the program to find out any revision of the program is needed. Any profession as its own up and downs for a new joiner. People have their own fears, hopes and ambitions while joining a new profession. With the above analysis of clinical supervision, I would like to present my fears and hopes on attending the supervision as a new supervisee. Having excelled in studies and coming out with flying colors from college, I have obtained a well paying job in a software company.

Due to my excellence in studies, my hopes are as high as the tallest peak in the world. I would like to perform exceedingly well in my profession with whatever role I am given in my job. But, as any new joiner would have, I have fears about how I am going to work it out step by step. Having been an employee in this profession for three months, there are certain doubts within me on my performance. Though the job given to me is not what I expected in the company, I have done the best out of what the job could offer.
