The sports facilities put up will result in the rise in house prices because people will transfer to Newham to avail of the sports facilities. Most houses are occupied by homeowners. This shows that most of the residents have money to pay for the membership dues and hourly rental fees to use the proposed Newham sports facilities. NEWHAM SPORTS PROJECT OUTLINE a) RELATED SPORTS LITERATURE According to the journal entititled Child and adolescent sports participation as predictors of participation in sports and physical fitness activities during young adulthood by Authors Perkins, D; Jacobs, JE; Barber, BL and Eccles, JSDate2004, The findings of the research are as follows: " The overall conclusions are: (i) Individuals are not likely to begin participating in sports if they had not participated in the past. (ii) Gender plays a significant role in young adulthood participation in sport, but not in fitness activities. (iiI) Education level has a significant role in young adults' fitness activities, but not sports participation. (iv) Childhood participation in sports was found to be a significant predictor of young adulthood participation in sports and physical fitness when adolescent sports participation was removed from the equation. The authors list a number of limitations: (i) The data are based on self-reporting. (ii) The definitions of sports participation differ between the waves. (iii) Sample was drawn from one mid-west town with no minority ethnic component in sample. (iv) Income data suggests that the sample was mostly middle class. (v) There was a substantial dilution of the sample over time" In the journal entititled Adolescent correlates of adult physical activity: a 26 year follow-upAuthor Beunen, GP; Lefevre, J; Philippaerts, RM; Delvaux, K; Thomis, M; Claessens, AL; Vanreusel, B; Lysens, R; Eynde, BV and Renson, it is stated that Adolescent indicators of physical activity, physical fitness, and anthropometric dimensions, fatness, biological indicators and family characteristics contribute to the variance in indicators of physical activity at 40 years of age. The body dimensions of a person is a big indicator that he is active in sports activities. At body dimensions of a 16 or 18 year old boy, he is very physically active as compared to a 40 year old man's body dimensions. Generally, a smaller body size (as in a 16 year old) will engage more in active physical or sports activities. Other factor why 40 year olds are less active is due to the fact that the 40 yr old father is now working in an urbanized environment with a his high socio- economic status. A not so busy work load, no overtime, will encourage the 40 year old man to engage in sports activities. The journal article, A life skills development program for high school student-athletes by authors Petitpas, AJ; Van Raalte, JL; Cornelius, AE and Presbrey, tells us "that we can engage the adolescent youth in sports programs in high schools. A sports program called Play it Smart is designed to meet needs of football players in disadvantaged communities to (1) Improve their scholastic grades (2) Increase youth's involvement in community service activities, and (3) Improve knowledge in us of health enhancing behaviours. This program involves cooperation from parents, students and the sport's coaching staff. It's importance is to build close academic and sports relationships among participants." According to Cambridge Econometrics, in the article The Value of Sports Economy in England in 2000, There is always available funding for sports activities. Funding could come from TV broadcasting income, lottery, local authorities' use of a planning system to provide sports facilities and the Private Finance Initiative as key source of investment. All sports enthusiasts who plan to join the Newham sports club must have a medical certificate that he or she is fit to join. Sports activities can divert the adolescents' attention, especially the out of school youths and the unemployed, away from drugs and violence and prefer spending their precious idle time participating in any of the sports activities of Newham Sports club. Traditional sports will help much in rehabilitating or taming down "violent" young adolescents Newham adolescents. By diverting their attention to sports activities, like basketball, soccer, track and field, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, chess, and martial arts, and thru the team spirit or camaraderie with fellow sports enthusiasts in Newham Sports Club, Newham's youth will grow up doing "better" things . It is said that the youth the hope of the future. The youth may be encouraged to be team leaders to guide and moderate their peers in sports games. By allowing them to use their adolescent creativity to make their own rules and in uniting other adolescent and child members of the community to prioritize sports as outlet of their emotions and frustrations, and guide others to leave their violence and drugs behind and concentrate on sports and team building, then both the team leaders and their peers will grow to be future community leaders that will help Newham be more economically successful than it is now. When these adolescents feel pride in showing off their prowess in soccer, basketball, volleyball, martial arts, chess, badminton and other sports, these sports enthusiasts will radiate these "feelings" to their peers and their peers will in turn to sports the cycle begins again. They will feel worthy to face their neighbors and even go so far as to represent Newham in inter -regional sports events. Who knows, we may discover another soccer legend like Pele or Bruce lee here in Newham!. It is very important that these youth will be put under the guidance and training of more experienced sports staff. We should not concentrate on competition alone, though. Losers will feel bad. Rather, we should concentrate MORE on ENJOYING exercise, relaxation, getting more friends with the same sports hobbies. Sports training should be the other primary goal of the Newham sports program. b) SPORTS PROGRAM OUTLINE The sports program must concentrate in the initial phase on the following sports: 1) Weight and fitness program 2) martial arts program, 3)volleyball 4) Mini Soccer 5) BasketballProgram To instill in the hearts of Newham residents love for England's favorite sport. 6)Indoor sports program Included under the indoor games category are table tennis , badminton, volleyball, basketball, chess and martial arts. The Basketball court could be scheduled to be converted to a table tennis, volleyball, badminton playing area when basketball games are not in session. One room will be used for chess games, and martial arts. Martial arts will include, Karate, Taekwondo and Judo. Two particular Newham sports programs are bi - monthly seminars and sports clinics for the Newham Sports Club members. The coaches and sports referees will be trained on officiating during the actual sports activities in all sports in the Newham sports program will be conducted twice a month. Tournaments will be held every two months in all sports events. The sports activities will develop camaraderie in the athletes. This cooperative spirit among the Newham club members will lift up their friendship and belongingness level to a higher plateau through friendly competition with their neighboring regions. This will be a good start. Newham must continue to expand and improve the sports facilities and equipments to reach competition standard and produce top caliber sportsmen of Newham. Gym equipment and other facilities, including men's and ladies' lockers, will be purchased on installment basis. A philanthropic person or business enterprise may be invited to donate the necessary equipments. Other sources of income are the fixed monthly membership dues and the hourly rent fees from sports members and visitors. The sports clubs are growing or being up very fast in many regions of England. The sports facilities must be watched and monitored by Newham staff to determine if they are adequate enough for the convenience of the patrons of Newham Sports facilities. SPORTS COMPETITION Each team will pay a tournament fee to join each of the events in the Newham tournaments to be held every 3 months. Prizes will be solicited from Newham businesses and others with a heart for giving money to sports foundations like this. The Newham sports center will coordinate and be a member of other government and private sports associations so that the Newham sports team formed can compete with the sports lovers of the other districts and sports associations in England. OUTLINE TO PUT PROJECT IN ACTION. ELECTION OF "VOLUNTEERING" OFFICERS There will be an election of "volunteering" officers by secret ballot of the sports club. The sports club will register the appropriate government agency to make it legal so it can transact business. The elected officers will serve the community sports club for free. Retired and currently active sports champions and coaches in the various sports events of the Newham sports club will be offered positions to act as volunteer coaches in their specialty sports field. MEETINGS AND PRACTICES Regular announcements will be posted and passed around and known public officials will be invited to join. They could act as speakers and form the nucleus of the Newham sports organization. They will be asked to contribute their time and effort and if possible contribute funds to the sports program for free. Volunteers from all sectors of society like employees, housewives, students, athletes will also be invited to join and administer, for free, and contribute money for the operation of its sports activities. The business community will help in the planning , administration and sourcing of money. In return for the money outsourced from these companies, these contributing companies will be allowed to display advertising during the actual games. After 6 months, there will be stipend or small fees for the daily subsistence of the volunteer administrators, if they do not prefer volunteer work for free, with a heart for his/her neighbor and Newham of this program. As more residents and nearby neighbors join the club, Stipend for the Newham sports club volunteers will be increased.
