According to the research "Definition of True Friendship" findings, a true friend does not have to be asked to help, when they see you in difficulties, they take the initiative and start assisting you even before you can ask. In sharp contrast, fair-weather friends will distance themselves with you when they realize you might need help and only come back when you have dealt with the situation. A real friend will never judge you; they assume your perspective and try to see things through your eyes, even when they do not agree they will not try to force you to share their views.
In a true friendship, one does not have to change so they can be accepted, true friends will accept you just the way you are. There are friends who try to change you and make you feel you need to be different to be acceptable to them, these are not true friends. A true friend loves you just the way you are unless of course, you are into something self-damaging like drugs or other vices as such they will try and change you for your own good. True friends listen and hear every word you say, when you are in a bad place and you need a friend to comfort you or simply to listen to you, they will listen empathetically and will hear and take to account everything you say (Scott, n.d). True friends keep their promises, they say they will do something they always ensure to do it; when they say they will come you can be guaranteed they are there.
The word of a true friend is their bond and any promise they make, you can take to the bank. This contrasts with false friend who will promise and forget about it immediately afterwards, with every broken promise, the trueness of one’s friendship is watered down. A relationship with a true friend is not restrictive, and friends always let each other have freedom, in a good friendship, the doors window are open in cognizance of the fact that if a friend is real, nothing can keep them out. A true friend keeps realistic expectations and does not expect you to do more for them than you are capable of doing.
Some friends use their problems to blackmail others in to sympathizing with them, a true friend, on the other hand, will do none of this; they only expect you to do so much for them and will understand when you can’t. True friendship is landmarked through frequent gestures and friends will honor each other in small ways every now and them. They will remember each other’s birthdays and anniversaries they will be there with a present, not necessarily anything big, but a token to remind you that they are they keep you in mind.
Finally, a true friend does not have to be physically present in your life, for instance one of my best friends’ lives in a different state and we rarely ever or call each other, how then on may wonder, do we remain friends? Whenever I need him, all I have to do is to pick up the phone and call him and even if we have not spoken for months we seemly pick our friendship from where we left it. One phone call from someone he has not met in years is enough to
