Power of Language to Solve Human Conflict in the Society - Essay Example

Noah’s existence was considered evidence of the crime as he was born by a Black mother and a White father. This explains the title of the book. The power of language helps in communication. The prevalence of human conflicts that are often witnessed in societies arises due to misunderstanding and the language barrier. Ideally, people fail to control their anger as reasoning is barred by a lack of language. However, the existence of the separation between the blacks and the whites in schools and all other major social amenities led to human conflicts.

The struggle to make amends became difficult as there was no appropriate communication. Isolation led to the inability to connect with others. Further, the separation prompted the South Africans to have their own school and so did the Whites each learning their languages and excluded the rival group language hence they could barely communicate because of their misunderstanding (Noah, 2017). Noah was in a world he was not supposed to exist led the human conflicts. This was dangerous for his growth.

His protective mother would even predict erroneously that someone was out there to harm his son. For example, in the minibus incident was his mother mistook the driver of the minibus wanting to kill her son hence throwing young Noah out of the minibus. The mother thought that the driver was from another tribe hence the level of trust was zero. Language is critical in promoting peace and harmony in society. Everyday endeavor, the essence of a good neighborhood is a way of knowing the people around us and be able to communicate amicably.

However, a lack of communication leads to mistrust, and whenever a neighbor makes a move one gets insecure. Upon the death of his mother, as she was shot dead by the stepfather, Noah developed mental and social agility, despite working to his advantage; he ventured into risky activities like selling illegal bootlegs and stealing a car (Noah, 2017).  Approaching the conflict in society requires calmness and people's willingness to handle their differences through communications. Often, police use community policing by involving society members in solving the human conflict and curbing criminal activities.

This is usually achieved through public forums that use the power of language to pass the message of peace and the need to live in harmony. Additionally, the public will understand the dangers of human conflict given the right use of the language. By seeing a neighbor to be from another tribe or not speaking their language is a recipe for conflicts.  Consequences are also outlined on how the law would deal with the hate mongers. Language supersedes color. The prevalence of “color bar” in South Africa would have been a non-issue given there was a proper language used by the natives and the whites.

Ideally, language works as an avenue to create proper governing bodies. Friction with the locals also would have been avoided if the use of similar language would have been employed. The story of Noah provides a sad side of failing to use language to curb human conflict. The tragedy of her mother killed by the step-father was part of the human conflicts. Despite the Black South Africans were the majority as compared to the White South Africans, they were defeated as they were divided into small tribes and made to hate each other (Noah, 2017).

As a strategy to rule them, the Whites often started conflicts amongst the tribes. Using comedy to communicate against racial oppression and politics without creating conflict as used by Noah is a creative way of using language to end human conflicts (Noah, 2017). The language use act as a bridge to solve the human conflict, for example, oppression against the color people are addressed by Noah using a language everyone understands hence the message passed effectively. Additionally, the role of parents is paramount.

Noah tells how his mother gave him an alternative perspective on racial relations. The mother also wanted to protect his son from the wrong societal influences. Conclusively, using language to solve the human conflict in society is significantly effective. The ability to understanding both parties sets a fair ground to instill acceptable actions that will eliminate instances of human conflicts. Additionally, having the right influences helps create cohesion just like Noah’s mother who tried her best to protect her son from negative societal influences.

The conflict resolution teams also capitalize on the language as a cultural tool to create a connection and make the aggravating parties reconcile and forge forward for a better society.
