This article, Nobody Gets Married Any More, Mister, was written by Gerry Garibaldi. In this article, the author highlights the issue of teen pregnancies in Connecticut. The author starts the article by giving an overview of her time as a teacher in a school. She talks about No Child Left Behind act, which was introduced by former president Bush. After writing a little about this act, the author writes something about the facilities that her school provided to the students. “Our facility is state-of-the-art, thanks to a recent $40 million face-lift, with gleaming new hallways and bathrooms and a fully computerized library” (Garibaldi, 2011).

The author predicts in the article that although money, reforms, and the gleaming porcelain hold great importance for the schools but they can hardy make a good impact on the minds of the children. The reason is that urban teachers and students are facing such problems, which are associated with the mindset of children, which cannot be changed due to reforms. “Urban teachers face an intractable problem, one that we cannot spend or even teach our way out of: teen pregnancy” (Garibaldi, 2011).

In the remaining part of the article, the author describes her experience of dealing with her pregnant students. The author mainly emphasizes on her encounter with a girl named Nicole who is likely to become a teenage mother. Along with Nicole, who has been the focus of the author in the whole article, the author also highlights her experience with another student, jasmine, who gave birth to a child nearly six months ago. In the end, the author tells us about Data Wall, which is a strategy for the teachers to produce data about progress of the students.

A Conservative Perspective and Ideology of the Issue My own belief about the issue of teenage pregnancies is somewhat conservative. I believe that teenage pregnancies result in creating many social and health problems. The government of the U.S.A provides considerable benefits to the unwed teenage mothers, which is one of the main factors behind increase in the rate of teenage pregnancies. Jansson (2011) states, “Refusing or severely limiting public benefits to teenage mothers, will reduce out-of-wedlock birthrates” (p. 514). Some girls do not get pregnant intentionally.

Such girls forget using pills or other contraceptive methods during sex, so their chances of getting pregnant increase. Such pregnancies also give rise to illegal abortions, which is another ethical issue. If a woman becomes pregnant due to unprotected sex, it is not ethical to terminate the pregnancy because in that case, the pregnancy occurred due to carelessness of the woman. The fetus maintains the right to take birth once it starts developing inside the body of a woman. A pregnancy, which occurs due to one’s own carelessness, should not result in abortion.

It is very unethical to terminate such pregnancies because it is like snatching a person’s right to live just because of one’s own carelessness. Therefore, my belief regarding the issue of teenage pregnancies is somewhat different to most of the current ideologies. I believe that the government should take steps to make children aware of the consequences of teenage pregnancies in order to stop them from getting involved in illegal sexual activities.ReferencesGaribaldi, G.
