Running head: ification and Division IFICATION AND DIVISION ification and division are two things we quiet often use in our daily life to distinguish between persons and objects around us. Most of the people and things around us are different in some ways and hence classifications and division is necessary to identify each of them. This paper briefly classifies some of the persons or things which I have quiet often come across. Introduction I’d like to discuss the different types of Roommates, Sports fans, Political activists and Churchgoers in this classification and division paper. I chose these four categories because I have lot of experiences of staying with others while studying and I like sports and politics. Moreover I have watched churchgoers closely even from my childhood. “Division is the process of breaking a whole into parts; classification is the act of sorting individual items into categories” (Kirszner &Mandell) During the course of my school studies I forced to study in different schools which were distant from my home. So I stayed in school hostels and got lot of opportunities to interact with different types of people; Extroverts Introverts Fat ones Thin ones Extrovert persons will always talk too much and will comment on any subjects even if they don’t have any idea of what they were talking about or the subject they were talking about. Extroverts always try to prove others that they were exceptionally smarter than others. They will quiet often jump into troubles because of their over smartness. On the other hand the introvert persons always talk little and they will never interfere in other’s personal matters. They will concentrate on what they were doing and will never make unnecessary comments on others. Moreover most of the introvert people I observed were intelligent people. “We readily accept labels like introvert and extrovert as immutable descriptions of ourselves” (You can change from introvert to extrovert - when you want to) Fat ones always eat too much and sleep too much. Most of them will never participate in physical activities like sports and games which needs physical hard work. They will mostly concentrate on passive games like video games, card games, chess, caroms etc. On the other hand thin ones always exhibit better stamina and enthusiasm in participating in sports activities. They will always go for active games like football, cricket, tennis, badminton etc. “Simply being thin does not automatically qualify us as fit. As a matter of fact, the world is full of skinny fat people.” (Skinny Fat People) I am a sport loving person and hence a close observer of sports fans. I have watched lot of games like football, cricket and tennis and hence lot of experiences in watching the sports fans also. Based on these experiences, I can classify Sports fans mainly into three categories; Crazy fans Fans with sports man spirit Passive fans Crazy fans always favor the team which they support. They will never encourage the opposition teams. Whatever the points scored by their team will be considered as a personal achievement for them. They will make lot of loud noises and quiet often they will make unnecessary comments and engage in harmful activities like throwing bottles on the ground, encroaching the ground when their team suffers setback etc. Quiet often these types of fans create violence and problems both inside and outside the stadium. “Fans get a heck of a lot more upset than players about the wins and losses,” says sports psychologist Richard Lustberg” (Fratti) Fans with sportsman spirit will encourage both the teams equally well. They will support good play rather than their teams. They will never engage in violent activities. Their intention is to watch a better match rather than winning or losing. Passive fans will never support or criticize the teams playing. They will simply watch the sports activities in a passive manner with no expressions shown externally. Politics is another area of my interest and hence I observe politicians closely. Based on the activities I can classify politicians into three categories; Corruption based politicians Value based politicians Professional politicians Corruption based politicians always work for getting some advantage out of the politics rather than servicing the public. They will always be motivated by self interests rather than the public interests. On the other hand value based politicians always work for the public. They will never run after higher positions or honors. Professional politicians will take politics as a profession. They will do something for the people and at the same time they will not forget do something for their own future as well. “The voters select among the pool of honest politicians just those with higher competence, while they are induced to reelect corrupted politician” (Expert Advisers, Corrupt Politicians and Electoral Outcomes) Churchgoers can be classified into three categories; True believers Passive believers Non believers True believers always try to concentrate 100% in the church mass and prayers. They will never bother about what’s going on around them. They will be in another world of spirituality while worshipping in the church. Passive believers will go to church simply to show others that they are also believers. They will avoid their belief for personal gains; but will act as strong believers in God and church activities. Non believers also go to church at times in order to study the church activities. Some of these non believers go to church in secret since they may act as non believers in the external world while they may have belief in God in their minds which they want to hide from others. “A new study finds people who attend religious services weekly live longer. Specifically, the research looked at how many years are added to life expectancy based on: Regular physical exercise: 3.0-to-5.1 years Proven therapeutic regimens: 2.1-to-3.7 years Regular religious attendance: 1.8-to-3.1 years” (Britt) Conclusions Based on the behavior and characteristics, people and objects around us can be classified into different categories. No two persons are alike even if they belong to same, family, community, religion or country. It is easy to identify people and objects by classifying them. References 1.
