Persuasive Speech Outline Essay

This persuasive speech outline essay aims to push for stricter punishment for people participating in cyber bullying. There needs to be an end to cyber bullying by punishing those that partake in the crime.

According to The Cyber Bullying Research Centre, Facebook has more than 1.35 billion active users every month worldwide. Instagram follows second with over 200 million and Twitter with 36 million. Unfortunately, more than half of these social media users have been bullied online at one time, resulting in severe psychological problems. These can be:

  • Depression
  • Stress
  • Suicidal tendencies
  • Drug abuse

Therefore, people need to take active action to prevent cyber bullying because it is a vice that does great harm to the affected, which may last for a very long time. That is why the government has to revamp its social media policies and revise what constitutes cyber bullying.

The main idea behind any revisions taking place needs to be to create severe punishments for anyone taking part in cyber bullying to protect the victims of such atrocious acts. With the appropriate investigation into cyber bullying, any bully will think twice before harming another person online. Many people have been suffering from the adverse effects of cyber bullying, and it is appropriate to address this online problem affecting many teenagers.

Many people join the online world to have fun and express themselves and unknowingly fall victim to cyber bullying. Such cases create a massive negative psychological effect on the person, and they may end up falling into depression or having low self-esteem. I have a good idea of the adverse effects of cyber bullying as I have witnessed it firsthand. And to think that other individuals are experiencing the same breaks my heart. Any cyber bully needs to be stopped right now. In this paper, I am going to talk about:

  • Cyber bullying and why it is a big vice in society
  • The main reasons why people justify cyber bullying
  • The solutions to cyber bullying.

I will discuss all the above points to express the relevance of creating the necessary environment ideal to prevent cyber harassment.

What Does Cyber Bullying Mean?

Today, children are facing problems that were unimaginable decades ago because of the internet. Young children commit suicide by numerous means, and others are going further to use guns on their fellow schoolmates. Technological innovation is making great developments in society, but the negatives are evident from the current decade's unconventional teenage behaviors.

Young individuals are accessing phones, social media, instant messaging, and many other technologies that give them the capability of harassing one another online. It is even worse to consider that cyber bullying happens to a young person. Cyber harassment may even occur at a younger age, as long as the child can access a gadget and knows how to type.

Without a doubt, cyber harassment can create great damage to children, leading them to depression, anxiety, and suicide. And everyone needs to remember that once something circulates online, it may never disappear, reappearing later when you have finally recovered from the adverse effects of cyber bullying.

According to The Digital Trends Staff, around fifteen percent of kids have received threatening messages online. Many of those being cyber bullied are girls. These figures are very discouraging, considering that such communications are received outside the confines of school, where children are by themselves and have to deal with the bullying instances.

Such poor behaviors are getting into individual's homes and may create extremely negative results like suicide. Now that you are aware of the dynamics surrounding cyber bullying and have understood its meaning, I am going to talk about what is causing the issue.

What Causes Cyber Bullying?

In life, individuals experience different types of bullying, and the one happening online is no different. It is even worse because it can happen anonymously. Any person harassing other children, either online or physically, does so because it makes them feel powerful and would probably like to stay popular. In most instances, children with poor social connections harass as they think it will help them fit in. These children have a bigger problem of empathizing with those that they harass. What are other reasons that cause cyber bullying?

  • Anonymity: Since cyber bullying doesn't happen physically, perpetrators like the idea of not facing their victims. Such gives them the courage to keep going with the illusion that they are not going to get caught
  • Ignorance of consequences: Many individuals that are the audience of these cyber bullies justify their stories and find them funny or comical. This rection is because no one is seeing the real reaction of the victim, and they may not realize the damage they are causing
  • Social pressure: A bully may justify their behavior when they think that it is normal or have been pressured by friends to act.

The above are the primary reasons why cyber bullying happens. The activity is a party to numerous participants, and the audience is also at fault for promoting the bully. Now that you are aware of the reasons for cyber bullying, why not learn how to decrease it through punishment?

The Ideal Ways for Punishing a Cyber Bully

Sometimes, cyber bullying can reach extreme levels, even causing a child to endanger their lives. Such instances require stern action to punish the perpetrator and prevent further cyber bullying. Whoever starts cyber bullying needs to be expelled from the learning institution, and other people that are party to the activity must be given a suspension for several days.

Any hostile activity performed by the cyber bully needs to be written down in their official record such that anyone checking out their file knows that they have participated in cyber bullying. With such actions, the child will be more averse to cyber bullying and will never justify it.

Although the above are severe enough, there should profound punishments that prevent the bully from doing it again. One of the most effective is giving the student a year of community service to atone for their mistakes. As they are taking part in the activity, they will always remember that they have done wrong, and cyber harassment is terrible. In case a cyber bully makes someone commit suicide, they should be taken to prison because their actions led the person to murder themselves.

This essay has comprehensively discussed various strategies of punishing cyber bullies such that they restrain from doing it to another person. This is also a lesson to others that would consider cyber bullying. In the beginning, I mentioned the significant problems associated with cyber bullying, which can be suicide, depression, and anxiety. After this, I explained the main reasons why individuals justify online harassment.

Thirdly, I talked about the best punishments for any cyber bully and consequences for those that support cyber bullying. It would be best if you didn't ignore any instance of cyber bullying. If people unite and demand an end to this plight, then online harassment can end successfully. It is the only way of successfully prevention online harassment from happening in society regardless of age. Many people are suffering, and it is the right time to take action.
