Health problems and injuries caused by this behavior can greatly raise social seclusion, constrained vocational and educational opportunities, as well as expensive residential and medical care. Thus, appropriate and early intervention to slow down such aberrant behavior is certainly required. Therefore, it is imperative that health practitioners who handle children with ASD have a good understanding of SIB.
