Addressing addiction is one of the most difficult aspects of helping an addicted person seek a cure. Frequently, over time, daily family participation has only managed to fuel the addiction, this is because the family members do not know how to bring about the issue of addiction therapy and opt to ignore the problem for fear of pushing their loved one away during the confrontation or intercession.

Counseling is an essential part of drug abuse treatment for many individuals. Family counseling, cognitive behavioral therapy as well as other approaches can help people recovering from addiction stay clean (Alters & Schiff, 2013). Because addiction is typically a chronic disease, people cannot simply stop using drugs for a few days and be cured completely. Effective treatment programs typically incorporate many components, each directed to a particular aspect of the illness and its consequences (Edberg, 2010). Family therapy services provide families and patients with education on the disease of addiction assess the needs and offer ongoing support during and/or after the patient’s substance abuse is treated.
