The Diverse Nature of Psychology Psychology happens to be an area in science which concerns itself with people’s minds as well as the behaviours which people exhibit. As a discipline, psychology is quite diverse. It implicates other areas of science widely as well as makes use of problems that are solvable to create knowledge to the public. For example, through psychology, the individual persons’ interaction with the surroundings that they live within can be analysed. Psychology has different concepts which include behaviourism, motivation as well as cognition. Psychology Diversity Influence over Motivation As a varied discipline, psychology does study human being’s motivation. Psychology queries if motivation as a behavioural influence is primary or secondary. The meaning of this is that changes in behaviour can be clarified through different means. For instance, it may be through principles of emotions, personality, perception, avoidance and approach. It is believed that motivation is involved in the manner in which responses of people perform. A good example is that a behaviour a person has learned will only occur when it is energized. What energizes behaviors is motivation. Thus, it is through psychology that the behaviour of humans can be studied based on whatever motivates them so as to act the way they do (Jessica, 2012). Motivation as well as emotion could be explained through the motivation theory by psychology. Theory of Emotion Different emotional aspects are explained by the theory of emotion. A good example is that emotion happens to be the response which individuals have towards other things and observation of this is through their bodies’ reactions. Through psychology study, an individual may be able to study the human body through observation of the manner in which individuals react towards acts or events, for instance through facial expressions. Due to the fact that emotions involve thoughts, individuals have a tendency to express their thoughts within their outside behaviours. At the time of events, individuals get aroused psychologically something which they interpret within their minds and then feelings (John, 2013). Approach and Avoidance Approach motivation happens to be the behavioural direction towards positive stimuli. Avoidance motivation on the other hand is behavioural direction on the opposite side or away from stimulus which is negative. It is through Psychology that such avoidance and approach motivation can be studied. A good example is when a person experiences positive stimuli, the person will act as though expressing a sense of happiness. Yet, when avoiding negative stimuli, the person may exhibit fear and anxiety. The study of the human mind is the way through which an individual can tell that the other is reacting to positive or negative stimuli (Jessica, 2012). Influence of psychology diversity on cognition Cognition concentrates on cognition psychology. Within cognition psychology, explanations get made on the manner in which individuals get information about the world. Within cognition psychology, creation of studies is through the modes in which individuals think, conduct processing of information as well as involve their minds in solving problems. Individual exhibit different ways of thinking and such can be expressed as cognitive diversity. Consequently, various means through which individuals perceive life occurrences is influenced by such diversity (Jessica, 2012). After the experience of certain happenings by individuals, they will think then react. Therefore cognition refers to diverse methods through which individuals react as well as decide on the manner in which to handle their situations. Even though individuals will have dissimilar viewpoints in decision making, according to cognition these individuals will come to consensus when they have joined a group. Through cognition psychological study, different features are studied which include false memories as well as cognitive dissonance. Cognitive dissonance Cognitive dissonance refers to a condition where a person will have to make a choice between two ideas that contradict. These could be beliefs as well as making a choice between what an individual knows as well as a new concept. These kinds of situations keep the individuals mind in a discomfort and conflict state. The theory of cognitive dissonance can be applied in conditions involving change and attitude information (John, 2013). It as well finds relevance in the solving of problems as well as making decisions. Within the study of psychology, it is known that individuals are motivated to have consistency between their attitudes and behaviors. This is the reason as to why cognitive dissonance is studied by psychology so as to make an observation the manner in which human beings behave as well as the attitudes thy possess and how they resolve conflicts between the two. False memories At times, people remember incidents that never took place. Such false memories have impact on how individuals live their daily lives. False memories as well implicate on the models of psychological memory. Psychologist have involved themselves in the false memories study. Individuals learn the manner in which simple false memories creation can be. Psychology again studies the effects a human being can face due to false memories. A good example is that a person could have abuse memories due to having been subject to then at childhood. Despite the fact that they are untrue memories, the subject is caused a lot of trauma. Guided imagery or hypnosis is the way in which psychologists can make determination on whether an individual suffers memory suppression. It is in this way that the person can be assisted in overcoming the false memories. Application of motivation and cognition in sociology and the social sciences Sociology happens to be a discipline which studies the society. Individual persons exist as part of a large society, however not in isolation. Therefore, their behaviors have effects on the relationships within the society. Cognition and motivation helps individuals to belong in a society. For example, it is the behaviors exhibited by people that determines the positions they hold within the society. Cognition and Motivation within social life give people a viewpoint of social survival in a society. Conclusion It is in every area of individuals’ lives that psychology is applied. This means whether in education, work and health, psychology can be applied. Through psychological testing, diverse aspects in the lives of people are studied. For example, the way individuals react to situations and events, how come up with decisions as well as solve problems. References Jessica, C. (2012). Diverse Nature of Psychology.
