Personality Personality a. My Personality My personality type is ISTJ (Introverted, Sensing, Thinking, and Judging). I agree with the findings of this personality test to a certain degree. First, I often do not like presuming anything about a situation, person, or object before dealing with facts surrounding them. Similarly, ISTJs tend to analyze their surroundings and consult facts before making any conclusions. The personality test results say ISTJs are “no nonsense” people, which I do not often see in myself. Occasionally, I can be stubborn after making a decision about something irrespective of how small it is and none of my peers or relatives ever convince me to change my mind. However, such stringent decision-making behavior does not necessarily imply that I am a no nonsense person. I have a six-year-old sibling who often interrupts me with his play while I am working and I pretty much tolerate it. Sometimes I even join him in the fun and end up messing up the house. I am aware this might not be good example of a no-nonsense attitude because a child expectedly exhibits it, but I can comfortably argue that I have never had to deal with a peer or older person who was nonsensical about work or a project. In other words, my patience for nonsense from a peer or grownup has never been truly tested. I have observed many of the traits laid out in these personality test findings. First, I often relay facts to accomplish a given goal or simply finish a certain task while expecting other members to do the same. While leading a project on building a model city back in high school, I expecting the group members to understand the situation instantly and make a start where roles were allotted. Some group members challenged my chosen option and caused me to become impatient very quickly because of the suggested impractical methods. I believed these group members were overlooking the major details of the project, which really frustrated me because of the time and resources we spent debating about the newly suggested ways. I observed integrity, pragmatism, and rationale as defining qualities of my personality, which are portrayed in these personality results. In addition, my response to my group’s devotion to the project in the previous example shows how duty is core in the set of principles that I closely adhere to. Professions that would suit my test findings are army officer, law enforcement, judge, and detective. These professions entail institutions of respected authority, security, and established constituency. A job as a judge or military personnel would provide the stabilities of an ISTJ such as lucid principles and less interactive environments. In addition, the work of a judge depends on reliability and objectivity, which I think would suit me. An army officer would require sharp vision, quick reaction, and objectivity as well, which I believe are the products of rationale and facts employment. Fields that involve a lot of fact checking and the application of logic include accounting, data experts, fiscal managers, business leaders, and even medical practitioners. I am interested in trying out data analysis and practicing medicine as suggested by my personality test findings. This is because I often would have to work alone in many of these jobs although teamwork is occasionally necessary. I am uncertain whether my personality changes depending on the circumstances in which I find myself. I do not have a history of mood swings or cerebral illnesses such as brain tumors that commonly trigger changes in personality. However, I have made rash decisions in the past because of how I felt at that moment. Despite being an ISTJ, I did not consult any facts or reason as I normally would. In such cases, the outcome of the decision is often undesired or essentially a setback. More specifically, a rainy weather once made me have a low mood and possibly lose an interview for a summer job. The rainy weather made me answer most of the interview questions pessimistically. I felt confused by the interview questions even though I prepared for them the previous night. I was rained on while heading to the office for the interview, which made me less aware of the office setting. This example exhibits a change in my mood and not essentially my personality and hence my uncertainty for whether my current mood changes my personality. I asked my friend to describe what she felt are some of my key character traits and she replied with reserved, isolated, risible, always cogitating, and absent-minded. She used the word introvert to provide an overall view of my personality. These character traits are very similar to my findings of the personality test. This is because the traits of being reserved, isolated, risible, and absent-minded are common amongst people with ISTJ personalities. My friend often communicates with me through cellphones, instant messaging, or video calls because I am usually reluctant to meet with her. Frequently, I turn down her requests to meet physically at a restaurant or at the mall because I am usually busy with assignments or work. This refusal and explanation is similar to ISTJ’s features of integrity, practical rationale, and tireless commitment to responsibility. Being risible is the only personality trait that my friend described me with and I could not associate with ISTJs. I always find humor comforting and even soothing when I am under pressure or in unfamiliar environments. The personality test findings showed that my ideal self wants to be impulsive, playful, and fun. This finding reflects on my friend’s observation of my inclination for humor in the sense that I possibly want to be more outgoings. My friend’s description of my personality is in line with the personality test results in terms of finishing a project once I begin it. I always look forward to completing my assignments and projects, which require a lot of research time. I substituted the time required for this research with that for socializing with my peers, which leads to a reserved and isolated personality.
