Social Influences and Power of Thought - Article Example

Family can play a role in a person’s experiences.  Whether a person is brought up by younger parents or older grandparents could influence whether or not they can throw a ball only because a younger parent is usually more agile than like an older grandparent who is the guardian.  Peer groups are a great influence because children learn to mimic each other.  If one child is doing something, another child will likely do it too.  In team play, a person learns more about working together as a group to achieve a similar goal.  They learn to share and even if they lose a game, for example, they are taught a lesson in humility.  The more they interact with others, the more likely they are to want to be like them.  Of course, gender roles are influential too because someone might say that girls are not as athletic but she may have grown up with a brother who taught her.

            The PowerPoint presentation just takes me back to how I was when I grew up.  I think about what ages I was doing certain things.  It also makes me look at other people with handicaps.  They might not have ever gotten to develop the motor skills that other people take for granted.  Running is something that people take for granted and do not often think about.  Unfortunately, there are people in this world who have never known and never will know what it feels like.  When I play sports with others or play with friends of mine children, it makes me more aware of where they are at cognitively and in their motor development.  I look at where they should be and how advanced or behind they are compared to the average child their age.
