Article critique The argues that discord between young adults suffering from ADHD is not a new phenomenon. Parents with children suffering from ADHD show less satisfaction in marriage because they tend to fight more and utilize more negative and fewer positive words during child rearing than do parents of normal children. In addition, the authors have evaluated critically the connection between intensity of children behavior and interpersonal relationship. They realize a greater discord among parents of children suffering ADHD and defiant disorder than parents of children suffering from ADHD alone.

The authors asserted that the availability of stressors within families with children suffering from ADHD and the connection between marital conflict and these variables increased the level of interpersonal discord (Pelham and Wymbs 735). The intensity of marital dissatisfaction within families with ADHD children seems to be a matter of great concern because research shows that later in life, the frequent conflicts leads to divorce. This is because parents usually find it hard to adapt to particular means of solving problems, which eventually lead to divorce due to misunderstanding.

However, research has also failed to consistently discover why divorce rates differ between parents of adolescents and children with and without ADHD. Despite this observation, most studies have shown higher chances of divorce among families of adolescents and children with ADHD. The difference in findings was because the researchers in these studies utilized a single point assessment and that all but two researches evaluated parents of preadolescents (Pelham and Wymbs 77). The article depicts that marital experts have discovered different aspects that put families at risk of divorce.

They argue that interpersonal behavior and contextual aspects predispose families to participate in marital conflicts and in the end, they divorce. It is true that the distal factors such as prior education and marriage level, and proximal aspects such as substance abuse and depression presents risk of divorce. However, the study omitted deliberately the potential influence of distal or proximal child aspects on peril of divorce. The omission is not rational and substantive because disruptive child behavior has been depicted to increase proximal adult behavior associated with divorce.

The researchers should have used quantitative method to process important information regarding the topic of discussion. This is because when using quantitative methods, it is easy to process significant data in an organized and systematic manner to generate trends extrapolations. In addition, it permits comparison of result in distinct areas of development in various situations. Further, it is easy to influence information in reproducible and consistent way. In addition, qualitative method is subjective and uncontrolled which implies it is not easy to measure results by reliability or validity test (Pelham and Wymbs 739).

During data collection process, the researcher should have used surveys and case studies since these methods offer detailed information on what usually happen on ground. Using survey and case study to collect data would have presented the researchers a chance to witness and record the relationship between parents of children with ADHD and divorce rates.
