Conditioned behaviors Every individual has a conditioned behavior and mine is impulse buying. This occurs when one experiences asudden, often powerful, and persistent urge, to buy something immediately with little regard to consequences. Impulse buying is prevalent because of aggressive advertising campaigns and increase disposable income. This behavior developed from the conditioning I got from my parents, who used to give me everything I wanted at anytime and never questioned why I needed the item in the first place.

As I grew older, I started earning some allowances that facilitated my purchasing power and I even bought things that I never needed. My close friends are also impulse buyers as they find it to be a better way of spending money than on other forms of indulges that can negatively affect an individual, like drugs. Being in company with peer, I find myself vulnerable to impulse buying and I believe that peer influence is a stimuli. My family background therefore cultivated my impulse buying behavior and my peer has facilitated and sustained the behavior (Friedman 278).

I have experienced many disadvantages of impulse buying such as purchasing commodities with little value to me, relative to their cost, and running into debt because of overspending. Based on these disadvantages, I would like to take steps change the behavior. Need for optimal use of my finances is my stimuli to the behavior change. Work CitedFriedman, Howard. Assessment and theory: Specialty articles from encyclopedia of mental health. London, UK Academic Press, 2001. Key words: conditioned, behavior, stimuli
