Significant Events Significant Events Briefly describe your significant event (one to two 2) sentences). I had just turned 16 years old and I was counting down the years to being officially an adult. I took my father’s car keys and fled with the car and later returned home with a long scratch on the body of the car. 2. Discuss why the memory of the event you described may or may not be completely accurate. The memory of me running away with the car may be almost completely accurate as it happened only 3 years ago.

I was not that young to forget about this event. My father handled the situation very wisely and calmly. He did not scream or shout at me as I had thought. In fact, when he found out about this from a friend and from the scratch I had left on the car body, he called me to his room. He then explained that doing so could have been very dangerous since I do not have my driver’s license yet. He said that when the time would arrive, he would have me admitted at a driving school where I will be able to learn properly and finally get a driver’s license. 3. Determine the effect the event has had on your subjective well-being.

Since my father did not scream or shout at me or got physical, I took his advice very positively. He said that I could have harmed myself or others around me. I thought about it and I did not want to be the person who harms others. I have not even hurt any insect unintentionally. I did not want to hurt others. Therefore I realized how it is very dangerous to drive under age. After that event I did not touch the car keys again. I have done many other mistakes in life after that but none of them was as significant as this one.

Because of my father’s calm reaction to this event and other similar events, I have had a high subjective well being. 4. Discuss the role the event may have played in the continued development of your personality. After I obtained my driver’s license at the age of 18, I have been a very careful driver trying to be safe myself and keep others around me safe as well. I have also leant how to be a responsible person and as a sibling as well since I have 2 younger siblings. I want to be a good example for them.

I would not want my siblings or just anyone to copy me and try to drive under age as this can cause a lot of trouble for people. Various personality development theories also state how childhood events cause behavioral changes that shape a person’s personality (Cherry 2013). So this event has positively shaped my personality.5. Determine the positive or negative impacts of the event on your overall health (including your reaction to stressors and your ability to cope). My father has noticed a positive change in me as I do not act rash in anyway and think about other people before acting.

I listen to my father’s advice on many things as I believe that parents have greater experience and do things for the betterment of their children. Being young there is always the motivation to do some things uninhibitedly “just for fun” but sometimes this does not turn out well. Also, it is very important to obey the law and I try to follow the rules as strictly as possible as I believe they are only there for our own safety. Stressors while driving includes roughneck drivers who instigate into getting into an argument with them on the road.

I try to cope with this by avoiding such vocal fights on the road. I try to follow rules both inside and outside the car. I wear my seat belt, follow traffic rules and other rules so that I may be safe and keep others safe too.ReferencesCherry, K. (2013). Personality Development - Theories of Personality Development.
