As a parent of a child that is edging nearer and nearer to full on gaming addiction, I do not appreciate your article “One step closer to an AIDS vaccine, thanks to video games.” This article elevates those who insist on wasting their time in front of a television set or computer screen playing games. While these individuals who “solved the puzzle” have developed some sort of skill for problem-solving how can it be said that it is all do to gaming? Perhaps these individuals possess a high IQ which resulted in their ability for higher level thinking and large puzzle solving not video gaming, these individuals should have been pushed to pursuing academic achievements rather than being pacified by video games most of their lives.

Your article while poking fun at those who do spend most of their time video gaming also elevates these individuals who insist on wasting away their lives. When my son saw this article he began to use it as an excuse for more gaming rather than playing outside with his friends or working hard at his academic studies. As a parent already concerned that he spends too much time with these silly games I have decided to take away his gaming privileges for it is my belief that while they can be fun, too much time merely pacifies the brain and results in a complete waste of time and an article promoting such activities is simply appalling.

Excess of everything is bad, be it education, or be it leisure and sporting activities. The group of gamers who came up with this remarkable idea is no less than pulling off a rabbit from the hat.
