Depression is a psychological disorder that is characterized by emotional feelings such as discouragement, irritability, poor eating habits, weight loss or gain, anxiety, and sleeping problems among others (Hardy, 2013). Depression was initially recognized as melancholia disorder, which became common during the ancient or medieval period. It became well-recognized as clinical depression or simply depression and it has been for a long time linked with stress. Depression is among the most widespread psychological diseases affecting many people globally. The research indicates that over 17 million American adults undergo clinical depression and the cost of human suffering from this disorder cannot be anticipated (Donald, 2012). This is a severe disease because it can interfere with the normal function of human beings and this might lead to other psychological diseases such as stress, anxiety, and mood disorders. The disease may contribute to the stress and suffering of the family members or it will impact the social life of an individual. One of the major signs of depression is irritability and this can contribute to stressful life events; thus providing effective prevention or treatment measures is vital. Although depression is a mood disorder that can cause stressful life events, understanding the psychological conditions of an individual can contribute to better prevention of the disease.
Depression is among the psychological disorders caused by stressful events in the life of many people. Depression is a severe disorder and it can contribute to serious relationship problems within the family or social working conditions. Hardy (2013) argues that stress is one of the major factors that can contribute to the misery and traumatic life events. Stress factors are linked with depression such as complicated health reports issues such as tumor problems, AIDs, cancer or other incurable diseases that may increase depression. Grohol (2013) offers a clear understanding of depression causes and reveals that complex interactions, biological and psychological, as well as, social factors are among the causes of depression. These factors are linked to stressful life events because they both contribute to depression and this can worsen the health condition of an individual.
An emotional feeling is among the major signs or symptoms of increased depression in the current society. Donald (2012) provides varied symptoms that can contribute to depression, but mood feelings such as sadness and hopelessness are among the major signs of depression. Some people may encounter different symptoms such as lack of concentration in their work, certain eating behavior changes, loss of memory, or moody development habits. Some of them may develop poor listening skills or develop communication problems and short-term memory may be among the symptoms of depression. Hardy (2013) asserts that emotional feelings can be experienced when someone develops a depression disorder.
Understanding the psychological conditions and the historical backgrounds of an individual is an effective step toward providing effective prevention or treatment measures. Providing effective treatment measures to an individual is significant because it can reduce this disease and its related issues. However, taking into consideration the historical background and psychological conditions of an individual can enable healthcare practitioners to deliver high-quality services to patients. This is because there are some medications, which can be administered to the patients, but worsen the situation or increase depression instead of reducing it. Therefore, it is imperative to administer the correct medication and consult physicians on the proper dosage once someone has been administered medications. Moreover, treatment measures vary significantly for both men and women; thus understanding the psychological condition of a patient is vital. Many psychological problems affect women; thus offering guidance and counseling is an effective prevention method for reducing depression in women.
Although depression is a mood disorder that can cause stressful life events, understanding the psychological conditions of an individual can contribute to better prevention of the disease. Depression can be caused by varied aspects including biological, psychological, and other factors; hence understanding the psychological conditions of the patients is vital because depression can lead to traumatic life events and this might lead to the severity of the disease. Moreover, understanding the psychological conditions of an individual can enable the healthcare givers to offer effective treatment or prevention measures to the patients. This is because the severity of depression syndrome differs in both men and women; thus some treatment measures may increase the disorder. Therefore, there is a need for future research professionals to conduct research on the way society can tackle the issue of depression, which is of the increasing disorders affecting many Americans in contemporary society.
