Major Depression Disorders Health care is the basis strategy for maintenance of life in the universe. For that reason, several initiatives have been made to foster researches in various areas of health care in order to enhance appropriate delivery of healthcare to all individuals all humanity. Continuing to uphold the sensitivity of matters behind healthcare, this paper will discuss various issues surrounding major depression disorder and wind down with a conclusion elaborating reasons behind the increased cases of major depression in the US despite the elaborate health care plans.

Introduction Depression refers to the feeling of sadness, grief and disappointment in many ways. Major depression could at times refer to as clinical depression. Depression drives individuals into constant sense of helplessness and loss of self-confidence. According to research carried undertaken by the National Institute of Mental Health, major depression affects more than 6.7% of the US population under the age of 18 years. The research further unveiled that between 20-25 % of the American population are likely to undergo through periods of clinical depreciation.

According to WebMD (2011), clinical depression refers to the feeling of sadness and lowliness during a particular. Allspych online (2004) in reference to accomplished researches states that major depression in human beings involves biological and environmental factors. Mayo Clinic (2011) reports that before actual diagnosis, health professionals have to determine types of depression and conditions that trigger each depression. Diagnosis of the major depression requires the doctor learn different and unique needs of various patients, health concern and compassion to the patient.

The medical team dealing with a certain kind of depressed person conducts research on the patient’s past history and the look of the family of the patient. In some cases, the health practitioner may offer psychological exam to the patient to determine the level and impact of depression (Mayo Clinic, 2011). The doctors will also require narration of the past events related to the contemporary disorder. During diagnosis of major depression, the medical professional will have to determine from the patient the extent at which he/she gets sad, anxious or empty moods among the ranges of symptoms related to the disorder.

The symptoms related to the development of the major disorders and present in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of mental disorder involves sleep disturbance, also known as the insomnia. In addition, major depression could be caused by loss of interest and depressed mood. Furthermore, development of major depression on an individual correlates to upsurge of guilt and decreased energy. Moreover, major depression associates with impairment in the memory of an individual and change in the appetite.

In addition, development of the major depression has close lineage with agitation and retardation in the psychomotor and desire to commit suicide (Pub med, 2011). Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of mental disorder requires health professionals to carry diagnosis that entail thorough evaluation of the condition by the medical doctor. The health professional is expected to examine various kinds of mood depressions that include seasonal effective disorder and postpartum depression. The mental psychiatrists are also expected to apply the concepts of specifiers in gathering deep information about the condition of the patient.

Specifiers help medical psychiatrists in choosing the appropriate method of treatment as well as aiding in the prediction of the course and prognosis of the disorder. Mayo Clinic (2011) elucidates that treatment and medication of the clinical disorders varies from one status to the other. Mayo Clinic (2011) adds that some patients of the clinical disorders will require subjection into short-term depression treatment while others will require lifelong maintenance treatment and medication to oust depression.

Medication of depression disorder is possible through two defined means; anti-depression and psychotherapy. Anti-depression medication encompasses selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) that increase the availability of neurotransmitter serotonin in the brain, Serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) that increase the availability of two neurotransmitters to the brain. The anti-depression also contains the tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) that increase serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain and the monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) that prevents breakdown of serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain and raising the presence of the nerve receptor sites in the body.

According to Mayo (2011), an ultra-modern introduced blood test technology that can work towards determining how the genes of person will react to specific antidepressant drugs thereby avoiding dangerous diagnosis. In the views of Mayo Clinic (2011), psychotherapy encompasses the cognitive behavioural therapy that helps mental therapists in assisting the patients identify unhealthy and negative behaviours and transform to the converse. Dialectical psychotherapy teaches appropriate behavioural skills to help patients grow tolerant to stress and emotions.

In addition, interpersonal psychotherapy assist individual in relating with others and construct strategies for dealing with communication problems. Furthermore, acceptance and commitment psychotherapy applies the concept of acceptance, mindful and personal values in identifying systems to address long- standing internal struggle. Light therapy helps the psychotherapists in increasing exposure of the patients to natural or artificial lights especially to individuals who suffer seasonal affective disorders.

Apart from the light therapy, there is also Transracial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), a procedure that uses the magnetic fields to trigger the activities of the brain to stir the symptoms of depression. Electroconvulsive therapy is another safer and more effective medication for treatment of severe and prolonged depression. In this kind of medication, mental therapists pass an electric current near the brain of the patients to cause standoff. Usually patients get anaesthetic treatment before the actual exercise to avoid discomfort.

Mayo Clinic (2011) provides that ECT is most convenient especially to individuals whose case is not responsive to drugs. All about Depression.com (2011) reports that major depression leads to impaired sleeping to the individual patient. Major depression also damages individuals’ self -esteem and confidence as well as the ability to satisfy daily tasks. This was proved in the case of Brenda who suffered from major depression and had to isolate herself as well missing from job. Brenda’s condition however improved after she met a mental psychiatrist who took her through thorough medication (All about Depression.com, 2011).

The consumption of foodstuffs rich in Omega 3 assists in the softening of the cells in the body and brains. Omega 3 oil acts as natural antidepressant that raises the levels of neurotransmitter serotonin. The DHA component of the Omega 3 helps in the build-up of the walls of the neurones in the body (McKenzie, 2011). Exercises are essential apart of curbing development of major depression. This is practical in that exercise raises body temperature, which in turn raises the rate of blood flow thereby clearing any substance that could lead to closure of the blood vessels to prevent flow of blood to the brain.

According to Web MD (2011), insufficient sleep does not result to development of major depression. However, lack of sleep only acts as a complimentary factor that becomes defective in line with another health problem. In fact, insufficient sleep works towards worsening of the situation to the development of major depression in the presence of another disease or illness. In conclusion, Americans are the most victims of major depression in the entire world in spite of the strategic health care system in the country.

This is majorly attributed to the low consumption of red meat and fish stuffs that are the main source of Omega 3 oil, which is vital for the repair of the mental depression. In addition, the increased cases of major depression in America can be attributed to the change in life style where individuals eat bulk of processed foods yet with little exercise.
