Observation on others - Essay Example

Various factors about ourselves and the way that we relate or feel towards these extrinsic factors will influence our perceptions. This nature or personal character that may influence the way of we thinking such as our likes and dislikes, moods, expectations, fears and experiences about similar situations in life. What appears attractive or unattractive to us appears more or less the same way and of the same magnitude among all people. This means that we would more or less react the same way to anybody be they friend or strangers.

This could be a good explanation of my relationship with a friend I met on the bus three days ago. I am and have always been a rather shy and reserved character in that I would not strike a conversation with strangers easily. However, on this day, a girl dressed in well colorful clothes entered the bus and looking at her made me smile. When she came to sit next to me, I found it easier to pick a conversation with her than I had ever done with anyone else. Being a lover of bright colors, I found I could relate to her and was attracted by her appearance perceiving her to be a good and friendly person; one worth conversing and striking a conversation with.

Currently being a new enroller into a university me and some of my colleagues have come to build a strong dislike to a certain class member we just met when classes resumed just a few days ago. This particular guy dresses like a politician and talks in a sophisticated manner. He seems to always know what to say and respond in various circumstances. This is both in talking to all the pretty ladies in class and to class questions by the lecturers. This makes me feel somewhat belittled by this guy, and so do most of the other guys.

Due to this reason we have developed a negative perception of the guy. Building strong dislike and even hatred towards him without giving a chance to get to know him or what he is about. This can be explained to the nature of perception of others with the main aim of preserving our self image. This is by Keeping our image and ego up high through a negative perception of him due to perceiving his nature as a threat to our self esteem. In various situations, it is common to simplify situations to fit what would go easier with us than to take time to deduct what could actually be the issue at hand.

A jolly good instance of this occurred to me when I got home from school last week. I had a lot of home work to finish before 9 pm because then I would have to take supper with the family and go straight to bed due to strictly observed sleeping times at home. While I sat doing my math that was quite difficult and time was running out my younger brother of 2 years lying beside me started crying loudly. This was distracting me and knowing I had a duty to soothe him to stop I just picked a bottle of milk and gave him expecting him to stop crying.

When he did not after trying to get him take the milk for some time, my sister walked in and noticed that one of the baby’s hand was stuck between the cushions. Upon releasing the hand, the baby stopped crying. The problem the baby had was staring me straight had I taken the time to assess the situation, but I thought of and took the simplest way out for me as I was rushing against time. My perception of the baby’s situation at hand was purely guided by my need to find a quick and easy solution that I continue with my work.
