?Full Lessons From a Website It’s My Life presents an informative site where children and parents alike can get professional help for some common problems they face that could adversely affect their living. It is educational because they do not just see themselves and their situations rather they see the circumstances as well and therefore have an understanding of how they act. It is a friendly site for both children and parents because it offers information carefully crafted for young people so that parents do not have to worry about the things discussed in it. Sometimes, parents can be too busy to help their children with their issues in school or play or simply do not know how to deal with the problems themselves so, the site can be a trusted teacher on how the children should act before other people. The ‘Friends’ page of the site offers valuable information for the common events that every child meets either at home, in school or at the playground. It is a natural matter that children get to meet new friends and it is inevitable that they meet friends who do not act as expected. First, there are the bullies who can affect other children. When a child is bullying, he can physically or emotionally hurt a person which could be dangerous. Being informed of how a person being bullied should act is very essential and this help can be gathered from the aforementioned site. Sometimes, fear could silence a child being bullied but being informed that one could always get help can give courage to a child to ask help from an adult. Bullying is a serious problem among children and can never be resolved by simply ignoring it. The aggrieved party is not the only one getting help from the site but includes the bully. Information about why a person bullies makes an individual understand the other party and would then know the best way on how to deal with the matter. Sometimes, a child will also be doing the act without realizing that he/she is a bully rather acts as he/she observes how people around him act. Such children can reflect on themselves as they get help from the site and see other people as they see themselves as well. Friendship is a vital aspect of a person’s life and this is where one learns to value other people. However, it is also a fact that even among good friends, there will always be misunderstandings. In the eyes of children, there can be confusions that will arise when they do not understand the actions of their friends especially to those who have been raised in a family where values and character formation are given priority. When they meet reckless friends, it is possible that the principles taught to them will be put in question and can affect them in a negative way when they are not given the help they need. Suggestions on how to deal with common fights among friends is discussed in the site and offers healthy ways that will train the children to deal with other people not only in the moment of their childhood but throughout their lives. Looking both ways is always implied in whatever situation a person is in, considering not only one’s self but also thinking about how the other person feels, making the experience make a person be critical of how he should improve himself and not just demand good things from others. Crush is another common matter to children that can affect their childhood either positively or negatively, whether they understand things or not. As the site claims, no one has all the answers when it comes to romance. However, having some guidance is far better than just groping in the darkness of ignorance that may lead to a person’s confusion. Having a crush can become complicated and usually affects the people concerned emotionally so that it is an important thing children and parents should face together. However, as mentioned earlier, children do not always get all the help and support they need from their parents and this makes things even worse. When it comes to this issue, sometimes the problem is not the availability of parents but the fear of children to share their problems with them. It is then important for children to be assured that there are professionals who can always help them with such personal matters and that they can always get help from the site anytime of the day. Dealing with the problem can be easier to both parents and children with the help of professionals, free of charge, who put their expert advice online. Things can even more be easier for the children when they watch the stories of those who have undergone similar situations of children like them whom they can relate their situations with and be comforted and assured that they are not the only ones going through difficulties. Gossip and rumors is another common problem children face and so many times, it is an embarrassing experience to face especially if you are the subject matter in a rumor. However, no matter how embarrassing it is, one always has to confront it or will suffer in silence. There are many ways to solve the problem nevertheless, solutions are not always professionally advised especially when a person bases his/her way of facing the problems from what he/she watches on television, portrayed by celebrities. Facing the problem in a healthy manner is always advised in the site and understanding the issue makes one more clear-headed in dealing with the situation. What is most appreciated in the site is its aim of informing its readers and viewers and not to judge the bully or the gossiper but puts the reasons for the actions in the light so that people can view the feelings of both parties and understand how both sides feel. This method keeps the reader informed and reflective. For the parents, they can also learn from the videos of the children as they look into their heads and hearts. This is helpful for them to understand and decide how they should deal with their children as they face the aforementioned common circumstances young people encounter. For busy parents, the site is most helpful with its concise presentation of the information designed to inform, educate and assist readers. It is a user friendly site because it is not complicated rather gives easy access to links that leads them to other pages in a comprehensible manner. In addition, it is also attractively designed for young readers with the pictures and colorful format used. The lessons are simple as well which are designed for the level of children to easily grasp the discussions and not mislead them nor confuse readers. Pbskids.org is a commendable site that contains valuable information and can also be used as an instructional material by educators. From its point of view, teachers and parents should help learners understand these important matters by presenting them the things they need to understand about the issues and not just concentrate on their feelings but also consider the feelings of others. In this way, they will also learn how to apply this principle in other circumstances. For its professional and helpful information, I give the site an ‘A’. Read More
