The news reveals that the extent of mental stress in the students positively correlates to employment situations, study conditions, economic conditions, and personal factors. The news is not only relevant in contemporary Chinese society but also makes a significant contribution to our knowledge of students’ stress in a general way that is acceptable internationally. My Thought on the Topic Ji and Zhang (2011, pp. 32-33) write, “The survey shows that today college students face mental stresses at different levels. Colleges and society should pay necessary attention to this phenomenon and help college students to cope with various stresses from study, work, and life, using education and psychological assistance.

” This approach is very practical in coping with stress. Traditionally, we depend on controlling our reaction to stresses, but Ji and Zhang (2011) provide material implications for us to deliberate on the tangential and environmental factors surrounding today’s college students. Further, we cannot randomly or completely generalize the stress response mechanism in a population because mental attitudes may vary from person to person. This concept is reinforced in the news event under discussion; I would explain the point in the words of Ji and Zhang (2011, p. . There could be many topics in psychology like market psychology or psychiatric counseling.

It is not so that these topics do not serve social purposes, yet I felt I needed to reflect on some more pervasive problems of greater social concern. In the selected article, we come across certain crucial news regarding the factors generating stress among college students in China. These factors are relevant in the international context too. Ji and Zhang have adopted a wholesome view of the students’ stresses and they have not avoided unpleasant issues like social uncertainty, institutional insensitivity, and family problems.

Relation of the Topic with My Textbook The book Psychology: Core Concepts (6 ed.) by Zimbardo et al (2008) has several important chapters about human psychology exploring the topics like behavioral psychology, mind, cognitive and mental processes, etc. Within the fourteen-chapter text, Zimbardo et al (2008) focus on introductory psychology and lead the reader to the advanced concepts in a step-by-step manner. In Chapter 14, we find highly critical thinking on the topic of stress. Analysis of stress, its relationship with human illness, stressors, stress response mechanisms, and related theories have been explored.

The article I have chosen also focuses on stress, and the authors have presented a practical scenario of stress analysis in the real world. Stress is pervasive in today’s world where humans are being exposed to excessive workload, professional uncertainties, lifestyle issues, pollution, etc. This is affecting the student community more prominently since the pressure of studies, educational expenses, and uncertain futures are common problems in higher education all over the world.
