Dear Sir/Madam,
Nepotism and favoritism have always been big issues in the US government circles. The quintessential aspect of any Presidential appointment needs to be that it ought to be based on a consideration for the best interests of the people, and should not be motivated by a concern for personal gains or individual self interest. For any insistence on the part of a President to appoint family relations on important government posts not only undermines the democratic principles on which this nation is based on, but also does much harm to the dictates of honesty and ethics.
In 1960 people accepted the appointment of Robert Kennedy as the attorney general of United States. However when President Bill Clinton announced his intention to place his wife Hilary Clinton on some key government post in 1992, he accrued much disapproval from the masses. People tolerated the appointment of Robert Kennedy but did not favorably react to the appointment of Hilary Clinton because they did not want to see the concentration of state power within one family. For it is a fact that when an individual is granted a government post on the basis of one’s connections and not on the basis of true merit, there does stand a valid possibility that, that person may not have the capability to do justice to the post one is appointed to. Such a practice demines the transparency within government and makes the states hiring and contracting activities, the concern of one single family, rather than being a sacred trust and onus.
So I strongly believe that Presidents ought to desist from appointing their family members on key government posts.
Sincerely

...Letter to the Editor “Who Exactly is Illegal Anyway” by Zeke Perez Jr. Response Mr. Perez makes some interesting arguments in his article “Who Exactly is Illegal Anyway”? Some of his facts are correct. The history of the United States is one of segregation. Not governmental segregation, but societal segregation that is self imposed. Mr. Perez points out: The dangerous rhetoric of determining who belongs in America is something that has plagued our country throughout its existence. It was only 46 years ago that African Americans were denied equality in the law, housing, hiring, and school. Only 68 years ago, Japanese Americans were singled out because of their appearance and placed into internment...

...of Cartoon: Recession’s End (Your home address here)-letter sender October 14, The Open Forum The Denver Post 101-W. Colfax Ave., Suite 600 Denver, CO 80202 The Editor: As a resident of Denver for a little over a year, I had seen how unemployment in this part of the country deprived people of hope of ever finding decent jobs again. I have some friends and relatives who are looking for work but could not find any. I find the cartoon of Mr. Mike Keefe entitled “Recession’s End” very apt and appropriate (22 Sept. 2010 issue). It is illustrative of the illusion that our unkind politicians are trying to portray to the public that the recession is over when in fact it has not ended yet and the economic...

...Letter to the Editor It is interesting to how different police departments are arming themselves preparing for an unknown event. The article also indicates variations in acquiring arms by police departments across different states. As a residence of the New York City, I believe that the efforts undertaken by the different police departments are unnecessary. The calibre of arms and ammunition been acquired by the police department is also unrealistic considering that the police officers deals with unarmed citizens. Moving with heavy weapons across the streets not only intimidates the public, but it will also contribute to crime. Although police officers require sophisticated weapons and equipment there...
