Only 68 years ago, Japanese Americans were singled out because of their appearance and placed into internment camps.Unlike Mr. Perez, I believe this societal segregation and laws resulting in this attitude are due to the situation in Arizona. This legislation is due to a problem that needs to be solved.Mr. Perez makes the assumption that everyone will agree with his position that racial profiling is dangerous rhetoric. The truth is Americans are concerned with the problems of illegal immigration.

Only minorities might agree with this point of view. A better argument can be made than racial profiling is wrong. Solutions need to be given for the immigration problem. There are no easy solutions, but maybe if Arizona is provided with alternatives, then racial profiling legislation might not be needed.Several options that could be explored are stricter I.D. regulations. New technology could provide the answer. In many states, to receive an I.D. a fingerprint must be given. Police might be provided with a fingerprint pad to compare with the fingerprint listed on file. If the I.D.

is not legitimate this could be spotted immediately. Another option would be all government services have a photo I.D. with the fingerprint requirement. Services like healthcare, any governmental services, and so forth could be mandated. Buying tags, registering a car, filing a lawsuit, and registering for a post office box are all examples of government services. Driver’s Licenses and state I.D.s with better security measures like fingerprints, barcodes, and photos embedded in the issue I.D. with the same techniques as used in money and checks could help spot illegal immigrants.

A perfect example of checking I.D. legally would be through the Census. If an individual does not send in a Census form, the Census Bureau sends out field agents. Names that are sent in can be checked with legitimate Social Security numbers, credit reports, and other sources, if a name cannot be matched up, then I.D. will be required. There are so many instances that an I.D. is required. Eventually, illegal immigrants would be caught.Crime is another issue that the Arizona legislation addressed.

Violent crimes are being committed by illegal immigrants. Stronger laws like those in Texas could help. In Texas, a citizen has the right to shoot anyone that steps foot on their property with the intent to steal or commit a felony. If an individual does not feel safe with a gun, guard dogs could be recommended instead.There are no easy solutions to illegal immigrants. The trick is finding solutions that do not degrade all parties involved. Prejudice, hatred, racial profiling, and self-imposed segregation of society can create a country that is no longer the home of the free.

I chose this article because I sympathize with the writer’s position. Since it is an online paper, the format is different. The heading that I created would not be applicable to the online version. When submitting an online letter to the editor, or responding to a letter to the editor, an automatic form is provided.My argument compliments the author, but I think he could have expressed the issue in a better light. I also believe that the people of Arizona should be able to vote on the issue.

It is their legal right to pass legislation regarding the Illegal Immigrant issue. However, I want to point out that the Federal Government, citizens of Arizona, or other invested parties can file suit and go about legal means of preventing this type of racial profiling. It is also important to offer solutions. The situation in Arizona is illegal immigrants, especially those from South America due to the shared border with Mexico, interaction with the citizens of Arizona. Thus options other than racial profiling should be given.

Instead of stating the obvious, racial profiling is wrong, a look at the cause of the legislation needs to be taken into consideration. This is a reaction to a problem and should be addressed as such.My intended audience is fellow citizens of Colorado. Their general attitudes about this subject are something that must be done about illegal immigration. This attitude is not as strong as in Arizona since Colorado is not a border state. The interest in illegal immigration is not as personal. Mr.

Perez is from Colorado, but from his name he is from Latino descent, this makes the issue more personal. I assume that Colorado citizens are concerned about illegal immigration either for or against. The majority of the citizens are for the legislation in Arizona.I responded to the assumption made by Mr. Perez that everyone thinks racial profiling is wrong.I mainly used logos. I tried to appeal to find a logical solution to the problem of Arizona’s illegal immigrant. I did not use ethos.

I used pathos at the end. “Prejudice, hatred, racial profiling, and self-imposed segregation of society can create a country that is no longer the home of the free” appeals to society to find a solution because we do not want to have a restrictive country filled with bigotry.My general tone is even. This was a logical letter trying to find answers. The appeal to keep America free might be the most persuasive part. I might need to make this letter a little more passionate, not so cold and informal.
