Why Am I here? Personal philosophy of life arguably provides a life compass to show the direction in which to take in life. Indeed, strong moral characters and razor sharp life philosophies characterize most of the successful men and women in the world. My personal mission statement is to be a person of positive influence in all spheres/aspects of life. In this respect, I seek to improve each aspect of my life especially in intellectual knowledge, religious understanding, integrity, social status, morals, and personal ethics. For instance, I have taken a personal decision to pursue the highest academic heights in my career in the hope that I will be a person of influence within the scholarly realm of my studies. Having come from a humble and financially straining background, I have often felt the need to be the light of my family and the community as well. On the other hand, I take the matters of religion seriously and often take time to nourish my soul with religious values. However, I find it important to read widely the different religions particularly Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, and Judaism. Whereas religion provides a moral compass, I find it important to have a wide encompassing understanding and not just get fixated on one religion. Having taken a ISFJ Personality a while back, I came to understand that most of the challenges impeding my success could actually be lying within me. My altruistic personality has made it difficult to balance between helping others and managing my personal life. At the moment, I am required to put more focus on my studies to secure a bright future. However, I am intrinsically altruistic and like helping other people. For instance, I spend a significant amount of time helping my friends who are behind me in class. Additionally, I share the little financial assistance I get from my parents with the less privileged at the expense of my comfort at school. Another impeding challenge is financial constraints. Presently, I need adequate resources to study and further my studies after college at a time when I am not earning any money. I may not be able to utilize any emerging opportunities because of lack of funds. Possible future challenges include overwhelming responsibilities, as I become a global citizen. As I seek to become a person of influence, it is worth considering that more responsibilities will come along the way. For instance, I expect to undertake a Masters and a Ph.D. later on perhaps in pursuit of my perfectionism nature. This will arguably put a scholarly responsibility on my shoulders. I expect to have a family of four children, which is an added responsibility of being the best spouse and a parent. In addition, I hope to payback my parents for the tireless support in my life by educating my younger siblings. In a world where jobs and investment opportunities are scarce, I expect to find challenges securing a dream and well-paying job. However, the greatest challenge will be to live up to my expectation as a person of positive influence in all spheres of life. Providing a moral compass to others is a great responsibility that only a few have managed to do successfully especially considering the imperfect nature of any human being. Responsibilities in life come with a set of obstacles along the way. Materialism has been one of the most challenging obstacles in achieving positive life philosophy. As people become more successful in life, materialism tend to creep in. indeed, it requires a strong moral character to prioritize material wealth over religious values. In a world where success in life is marked by material wealth, it does not come by surprise that it is easy to sway from religious standing to materialism. I hope to manage the temptation of materialism by nurturing my altruistic and philanthropic nature while I am still young. As I seek for material wealth after school, I will balance that with an equal measure of spiritual nourishment. I believe that if I can share the little I have in school, God can trust me with sharing even the more I get later in life. For instance, I have always nurtured the thought of establishing a foundation for the less privileged in the society. The foundation will encompass a religious and financial support for the poor. In return, I will also grow spiritually as I spearhead the foundation consequently avoiding the trap of being materialistic. Another obstacle worth considering is narcissism. As people grow in different aspects of life, there is a tendency to develop a narcissist trait. A narcissist tends to focus more on oneself and develop strong desire for recognition, as defining personality type. I strongly feel that this is not the way for me especially considering my introverted nature. Whereas introverts tend to hold back from people, I hope to strike a balance between socializing and retaining a certain degree of introvert. As I grow in different aspects such as religion, intellectual as well as socially, I will put more focus on becoming a role model and a person of influence as opposed to being self centered. This approach will be made possible by seeing myself as a global citizen with a more ultimate objective in life. Indeed, I see success in life in terms of the number of lives I touch positively and not how I look or appear in public. In my journey towards being a global citizen, I am likely to face a cultural obstacle along the way. For instance, I may find myself doing a Master or Ph.D. program in a different country where culture is different. In addition, I may find myself travelling across the world especially to developing countries to help the needy as I set up foundations to help the needy. I have already began to address this obstacle by learning different religions that exist across the world. Additionally, I have taken the responsibility of learning more about different cultures. This way, I will be at a better position to understand other people’s cultures hence making it possible to interact smoothly. On a different note, the world has increasingly become a global village with people of different cultures finding their way into organizations. As I look forward to working in multinational organizations, I have already paced up my cultural integration skills in order to cope with cultural issues in the future. In the spiritual realms, I want to be a pillar of hope and a good example to be emulated by the people around me. I hope to grow exponentially in my spiritual beliefs so that I can have something to share with others. For instance, I admire Buddha for his spiritual prowess that has continued to shape the lives of many people across the world including myself. Whilst I may not be as influential as Mahatma Gandhi, Buddha, or Jesus, I strongly believe that I can be of positive spiritual influence to my family, my community and to the people within my life. I want to create a sphere of inspiration along the path of my life by influencing people to have good spiritual morals, ethics, and positive attributes in life. I see this as a double edged sword considering the synergistic use of intellectual scholarly knowledge and spiritual understanding. Whereas life accomplishments changes from time to time, I think the overarching accomplishment is to be a useful global citizen with a track record of positive influence. I may accomplish academic goals by doing Masters and Ph.D. in different disciplines and get a good job but this will not bring ultimate happiness in my life. However, if my life can change as many people as Mother Teresa did, then I would say I have accomplished the primary objective of my life. However, to accomplish my life objective, I will need to uphold self-discipline, hard work, strong moral standings, and focus as my guiding principles in life. Self-discipline will ensure that I remain focused on important issues in life such as academics. On the other hand, hard work will guarantee success in school as well as other spheres of life. Although I may not achieve the much needed spiritual nourishment from school, I will couple school learning with external religious affiliations as well as read widely different books pertaining to religion. In addition, practicing good spiritual standing at school will ensure that I remain focused on the spiritual path. I foresee an improved personal life by accomplishing my personal goals. Although many people may consider acquisition of material wealth and fame as life goals, I consider a holistic growth as a more fulfilling accomplishment. In this regard, I hope to experience ultimate gratification from positively influencing or inspiring as many people as I can. In return, as I give to the community, I will grow intellectually, spiritually, and in other aspects of my life. My role models including Mother Teresa, Gandhi, Buddha, Jesus, and Martin Luther King Junior may not have died as rich and famous people but I strongly believe that they rested in peace after leaving a positive mark in the world. Therefore, I do not intend to take material wealth to my grave but to leave a legacy in which I will be remembered many years later. Read More
