Organizations have experienced both positive and negative effects of globalization. Businesses, educational institutes, and other concerned bodies are incorporating these changes brought in as a result of globalization within their policies and regulatory systems. The educational institutes encourage students from different backgrounds to join the courses so that a diverse environment can be created.
Diversity is an important perspective of education these days because of the advantages that it brings along with itself. Multilingual education has been proposed to be beneficial by many and diversity can promote this type of education. One of the students in our class who belongs to a different country and race is Yang Li. Yang Li is a Chinese student who transferred to BSU to do his majors in Business Administration. Yang Li is a person who knows how to speak both English and Chinese. He has always had an interest in playing sports and has excelled in basketball by becoming a part of the college basketball team. Yang Li is not much of a social person as he does not interact with people who speak English only. The reason for this behavior in my view is that he is more comfortable with his Chinese friends. In other words, he feels comfortable when speaking Chinese and not English. He attended a Chinese university for a year after being transferred to an American university. He is going to graduate in the next year from BSU and complete his majors.
Yang Li is a Chinese student who brings along the culture of China to the United States of America. He speaks both languages and can help to create diversity in the classroom. His limited ability to speak English like the natives is one main factor that can create diversity in the classroom. Moreover, the culture of China is somewhat different from America and the student is likely to follow his own culture. Culture is a way through which a person thinks and Yang Li would have a different approach towards different topics. He is familiar with his fellow Chinese individuals and gets along with them well. The natives of the United States can use this to their advantage and learn more about China and their culture through Yang Li. The specific events which are celebrated in China are also respected by Yang Li as he dresses differently on these occasions. At times he mixes up Chinese words when speaking English and thus it can help people to know more about Chinese.
Our classroom is a blend of people from diverse cultures and ethnicities which has helped us to know more about different cultures. A multicultural and multilingual approach in education is necessary for many people to make them understand the minor issues which are involved in studies. Business Administration is a subject that involves practical work along with a diverse workforce. The diverse workforce has to be taken care of by these people and the diversity in the classroom is helping the students to grasp the nature of different cultures. Respect and dignity are shown towards the different cultures by every member of the class and attempts are made by the students to know about the culture. Chinese culture in other words is being integrated into the class as some of the members of the class consider the culture to be cool. Family traditions and culture are important in a Chinese family and Yang Li proposes this to the whole class. Yang Li is providing a diverse environment for the people in the classroom by providing them with all the details about the Chinese people which may prove to be helpful for them in the future. Diversity is a way through which perspectives and views can be promoted in society and Yang Li is encouraged to put forward his views regarding different topics. This has helped the whole class to learn from these different perspectives and further encourage diversity in the classroom. Read More
