MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION Introduction The cultural diversity that is increasingly exhibiting among learners around the world and the United States in particular has gained significant government attention. In this regard, it is important to undertake critical discussion on the topic to seek insight into its contribution in modern United States society. The following texts offer different perspectives of the concept. Banks, J. A., & Banks, C. A. M. G. (2010). Multicultural education: Issues and perspectives.
Hoboken, N.J: Wiley. The authors offer an insight into the history of the US multicultural characteristics and its influence in institutional interactions. In respect of students, the unique cultural background among the US learners has compelled government to initiate multicultural approach to address national unity and explore tolerance and equality. This text is relevant to the contemporary issues and multidimensional socio-economic and political perspectives of American society in as far as learning is concerned.
However, the criticism against this work comprises limited statistical data that would support highlighted theories. Banks, J. A. (2013). An introduction to multicultural education. Upper Saddle River, N.J: Pearson. Banks give an-depth understanding of multicultural education in respect of the United States social diversity. In its campaign for equal opportunity and access to quality education, the author portrays the US education governance system as sensitive to the underlying differences. In essence the text is relevant to the increasing need to study and embrace culturally tolerant approach when teaching in schools.
The criticism posed towards this work entails limited explanation on the influence of increasing globalization effect into the concept. Generally the book covers critical ideas that dominate the topic. Race, R. (2011). Multiculturalism and education. London: Continuum. Race is an insightful contributor towards the increasing need to embrace multicultural education around the world. In regard to the increasing interaction of different communities online and physically particularly on education platform, multiculturalism is promoted by the author in lengths and depths.
By offering a global approach from the United States and European perspective on the topic, the author is clearly relevant to the contemporary socio-economic and political dynamism among learners. In an effort to achieve cultural diversity among the various people of diverse backgrounds in schools, the author emphasizes the importance of tolerance for better learning environment. Despite demonstrating outstanding significance of this concept, the text has some information gap in regard to comparative statistics to support facts.

The author introduces the role of multicultural education in respect of democratic ideology. In the United States, the author portrays a society of multicultural characteristics with significantly diverse socio-economic and political viewpoint. In that respect, Learners must be accommodated in their different cultural backgrounds to promote expression of individual’s views with the goal of achieving convergent interests.
The author emphasizes education system as critical in imparting democratic spirit in the society as it involves learners from childhood towards adulthood. The text is relevant to the increasing need to expand democratic approach in conflict resolution and sound governance systems in this era of globalization.
