Collagen is remodelled and realigned along the line of tension and the cells that are not needed are removed by apoptosis. ‘This is a complex and fragile process susceptible to interruptions or failure leading to formation of chronic and acute non healing wounds’ (Cathy Kelly-Arney, Wise and Keir, 2007, pp898).

Some factors that may contribute to this are diabetes, venous or arterial diseases, old age and also infection. Special management and care of wound is hence required to reduce the infections and promote the wound healing.
