16 July, Smart people getting divorced Julie had turned 38 this December and had entered into her ninth year of search for husband. Julie had just broken ties with Mark, after discovering that he had been cheating on her for full one year. This was the unfortunate end of her eighth affair. All eight boyfriends, were one by one found to be involved with several girls simultaneously including Julie. She did not want to see the ninth disloyal boyfriend, and would thus only cohabit with a person who would not only make love to her, but would genuinely love her from the bottom of his heart.
Having been into a relationship with eight men so far in her life, Julie was able to make a checklist against which she would assess the qualities of men in the future. The one scoring full would be eligible to take her hand in hand. The list goes as follows: 1. He would be established in his life with a business worth at least $2 million 2. He would not have been into any relationship before meeting Julie 3. He would not be into a relationship with any woman in addition to Julie 4. He would love Julie by heart and would never leave her 5.
He would not see his parents more than twice a year and would not spend more than twenty four hrs with them in the whole year 6. His love for Julie would not be driven by lust 7. He would love Julie for her personality rather than her body 8. He would be virgin ….and the list goes on! One day, Julie met Ben. Ben was from Holland and had come to Ontario for studies. Julie offered him to share her apartment. After spending a year with him, Julie found Ben scoring full in her checklist. She had waited for so long for the right person to come into her life and there she had him.
Julie had spent more than half of her youth in her search of the right man. At the age of 38 years, she resolved to marry Ben. But it only took Julie three days after marriage to file a case for divorce. Ben was caring, rich, and there was no woman in his life but Julia. Unlike all the men Julie had been into a relationship thus far, Ben was one and only who had men in his life! Ben was not interested in Julie’s body. He just required Julie as a fill in the blank who would be the insignia of his straight sexual identity in the social circle.
This made Julie amend the third checkpoint in her checklist. After this unfortunate experience of marriage with Ben, Julie took a pen to scribble something in capital letters on her checklist. Now the third checkpoint looked like this; He would not be into a relationship with any woman AND/OR MAN in addition to Julie. There was nobody to score full in Julie’s checklist now.
