In fact, I myself face this problem very often. On a further perusal, I found it a good idea to open an onsite childcare center for Urban Systems. The benefits of opening an onsite childcare center on our campus are plenty. This will attract more skilled female workforce to the company.

In addition, relieved from the burden of childcare and child-safety, the satisfaction of our employees will rise, leading to more productivity. Furthermore, there will be reduced absences and turnovers. Consequently, there will be a stable workforce, which, in turn, would improve the public image of the company. Certainly, there are issues to be addressed ranging from the operating costs and insurance issues. Furthermore, there is the need to get relevant certification to run the childcare center.

However, it seems to me that despite all these issues, there are obvious benefits to the company. Obviously, there are factors that are to be addressed before taking the step ahead. First of all, it becomes necessary to find extra space for the center. In addition, there is the need to arrange funds to pay for the space. The second issue is to find suitable personnel to manage the childcare center. Also, there is the need to ensure enough funds for the staff and maintenance of the center. Another concern is the fact that this new initiative will only benefit a minority in the workforce.

However, it seems that starting an onsite childcare center will of immense benefit to the company in the long term as it is highly likely that the number of female employees looking for onsite childcare facility while opting for job will increase in future. In fact, there are studies like the one conducted by micro-economist Rachel Connelly (as reported in Bowdoin.edu) that reveal that possibility of childcare is a primary factor in women’s workforce decisions. In addition, studies indicate that onsite daycare is not only affordable, but also profitable.

In addition, it has been proved that most employees will only be happy to contribute to the cost of employer-sponsored childcare (bowdoin). The most positive outcomes of the proposed facility involve increased efficiency and less absenteeism in the long run. My further probe into the issue made it clear that most employees are willing to pay for the support of an onsite childcare center whether or not they have young children. Most significantly, the significant rise in the proportion of females in the labor force in the recent years cannot be neglected.

Though all these points are in favor of starting a onsite childcare center, there is the need for a discussion in the Executive Board before taking a final decision.
