The paper "Nursing Controversial Issues" is a good example of an essay on nursing. Controversial issues are aspects affecting the beliefs of an individual. They can be opinionated, communal or spiritual beliefs. Controversial issues have led to debates in public forums since there has been a misunderstanding about the impacts of concerned individuals. They help in explaining unclear topics such as public importance to the public. This unit examines the controversial matters in nursing, reviews and explains the impact of issues on personal practice.

A Review of Nursing Controversial IssuesThere are diverse controversial issues in the nursing paper. Issues like safety in numbers, religion versus medicine, political issue and the ethical issues in nursing. These issues play a crucial role in the nursing fraternity as they are the constant issue that affects the nursing career. 1 Safety in numbers of ‘nurse-to-patient ratio’ has been a subject of worry to the community and the officials concerned. There is a group of individuals who believe that an augment in the number of nurses will amplify the disbursement rate of revenue by the government (Gordon, Buchanan & Bretherton, 2009).

As a result, this will lead to a lag in the development of another segment of the nation. Opponents of the nursing controversial issue claim that an increase in the figure of nurses will be unfair to the hospitals as it will burden the hospital budget. As a result, the level of regulation and management in hospitals will be reduced (Kaissi, 2010). 2 Religion versus medicine is a controversial issue in the health fraternity. Religion is totally against some practices that are advocated for by the hospitals.

An example is that certain religious convictions like ‘Jehovah Witness’ that does not concur with transfer or donation of blood to believers. They perceive blood transfusion as an impurity of an individual religious nature. The hospital supports the procedure of blood transfusion as it aides in saving individuals life. Religion also does not uphold issues like abortion and issuance sedatives the mentally retarded persons. The hospital encourages abortion if it causes health-related failures to an individual contrary to religions perceptions.

Religion detests abortion as negatively views it as murder (Metherell, 2012). 3 Nurses are not political, even though the political atmosphere around them intensely affects them. The political factors causing controversies in the nursing fraternity are health cover and immigrant funding. Politics plays a chief role in determining nurse’s salary and the rules that govern the contract between nurses and employers. 4 Ethical issues play a chief role in influencing the rise of the controversial issues in nursing.

Ethical perceptions are required to govern how nurses and patients communicate in the hospital. The issues also determine the different approaches towards medical ethics, and the difficulties nurses experience in the cause of their work. Impact of Controversial Issues to Personal Practice The controversial issues in nursing affect the personal practice of a nurse. The controversial issues that impact personal performance are that they find it difficult to choose their professional causes, advanced practice in nursing, pain management and the legal practice in nursing.

1 The controversial issue in nursing has seen a change of line in the nursing vocation. The change from the nursing vocation is motivated by the negative subjects in the field of nursing. The availability of diverse degree causes has increased the preferences of changing to other related careers. The difficulty in choosing of skilled careers impacts on personal practices of the nursing fraternity, since the hospitals miss’ crucial skills from nurses who opt for other related fields due to the diversity of the course (Kathryn et al, 1996).

2 Advanced performance in nursing has affected the personal appliance of nurses. Nurses are now categorized as per their education. Those that highly competent in the profession are assigned task and pay that match their education level. Historically nurses acquired their skills through the hospice based training, but as innovations cropped nurses highly developed their skills to assume the client care role left to the doctors (Mahaffey, 2012). 3 This is a controversial issue in the health fraternity.

Nurses are the ones who are accountable for caring for persons who are in pain. These affect them as they are human beings who experience the same pain when hurt or suffering from an ailment. It is ethical for the nurses to separate their emotion when handling persons in pain. This at times proves to be difficult as emotions at times are uncontrollable (Yoder-Wise, 2012). 4 Legal practices in nursing affect the personal practice of nurses. They face accusation from both the management and the public.

They are accused of various issues like negligence on the patient’s side, and not properly committing to their work by the management. These influence their personal practice in the delivery of services as they work under a stressed environment, thus can not deliver to their best. Conclusion Conclusively, controversial issues in nursing refer to the publicly debated issues affecting individual and personal practices of nurses. There are various issues approaching nursing as a practice, and this issue vary in-depth.

Issues that affect the nursing profession like pain management requires critical considerations to help in improving the personal performance of nurses.
