Application essay: Pediatric nurse practitioner Presented by: Presented Application essay: Pediatric nurse practitioner Pediatric nurse practitioner is my preferred specialization. My interest in nursing is the major reason for the choice because all my top three preferred areas of specialization fall under nursing. I watched different professionals perform their trade; teachers train pupils and students, politicians make policies for governing people, and leaders influence people under them to achieve desired objectives.

I also watched people in other professions work towards their objectives and pediatrics captured my attention and interest because of their primary role in facilitating objectives of other professionals. Nurses, in general, ensure people’s wellness and therefore promote the people’s ability to undertake their normal functions and objectives. The role of the caregiver at earlier stages of life, which establishes bases for other professionals, then focused my interest in pediatrics. My childhood knowledge of the roles of nurses and the general scope of pediatrics’ duty developed my interest in the pediatrics but my interaction with news about vulnerable infants, children, and adolescents has influenced my decision to become a pediatric nurse practitioner.

Unlike care for older adults who are informed of their conditions and can help nurses with clinical diagnosis and care provision, the scope of pediatrics requires patience and dedication on the side of the nurse in order to identify patients’ needs. Many professionals may however lack the traits and would therefore risk lives of the patients. I however have passion for young ones and identifying this risk informed my decision to venture into the line of specialization with the aim of taking personal responsibility for care of the young ones within my reach and assuming a leadership role for ensuring a dedicated group of professionals in pediatric nursing (Zack, n.d.).

The diversified scope of pediatric nurse practice that develops an all round person in the society is another reason for my choice of pediatric nurse practitioner over other nursing profession. Interaction with patients and their close associates such as family members and friends helps a practitioner to develop skills and experience in practice as well as to understand social issues facing patients and their families. The practitioner also collects patients’ information that may contribute to knowledge development and offers development potentials, contrary to other nursing areas of specialization that are restrictive (Job Profiles, 2013; College of Nursing, 2013).

In addition to the scope of practice in pediatrics, I prefer the field of nursing because of its relatively better salary scale compared to other areas of specialization in nursing. Pediatric nurse practitioners are among the most highly paid nurses and the high salary will help me to focus on my desired social objective in the field (Zack, n.d.).My future, as pediatric nurse practitioner, will involve focus on caring for infants and children. I will prefer working in private care facilities, with a long-term objective of establishing and managing my facility for the needy.

I will further advance my education in pediatric nursing practice to attain a professional and social status that can help me to influence peer in the profession. I plan to specialize in immunization, “well-child examinations,” and “management of children with complex” terminal complications (Freed, Dunham, Lamarand, Loveland-Cherry and Martyn, 2010, p. 848).My motivation and goals into pediatric nursing practice form the basis of my interest into the course. These, together with my personal dedication and implementation of the resources that I have dedicated for the study, will ensure my success in completing the course.
