Family Nurse Practitioner al Affiliation Family Nurse Practitioner The experiences I have had as a registered nurse (RN) have considerably shaped my worldview on family and patient care. Working as an RN, I have managed over 100 patients with different needs and challenges enabling me to improve my knowledge of handling patients in different stages of illnesses. The experience I have gained in my practice as an RN have challenged me to seek avenues of improving my knowledge on patient and family care to ensure that I can successfully respond to the diverse needs of my patients.

Becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) provides me with an opportunity to gain competence and dedication and leadership in providing holistic approach to care enabling patients to receive the best care and promote healing for them. The FNP will expand my nursing knowledge base, expand my decision-making skills in a variety of settings within patient and family care and ensure that I improve on my clinical competencies because of the extensive research offered in the area. I want to have a comprehensive knowledge and expertise in patient care by being able to assess patients, make diagnoses, interpret them, issue, and manage treatment programs for patients of different ages from infants to adults (Freed, Dunham, Loveland-Cherry, & Martyn, 2010).

I had a patient who had been admitted to the hospital because of a car accident she was involved in. I was assigned to be her caregiver for a period that lasted a full month. When she was being discharged, we talked because she wanted to thank me for the care that I had given her and I wanted to ensure that she could take her medicine as prescribed so that she could recuperate well. However, she confided in me that her husband was violent at home and that she lived in constant fear. She did not know how she could heal in such an environment.

she was in tears while doing this and I had to do something because she was going to a threatening environment that could not promote her healing. She was afraid to report this to the police because of what her husband could do to her. I had to advocate for her by convincing the hospital management to let her stay for two more weeks while we find the best means to approach this issue. I convinced her to report the matter to the police, her husband was arrested, and she went home after two weeks.

She came after two months completely healing and said her husband had agreed to go to counseling for his behavior. She even brought me a present. The above experience among others prepared me for FNP because I need more training and information to deal with such patient and family needs successfully. My short-term goal is to gain more information and experience in clinical leadership and advocacy in terms of being able to make critical decisions and taking the relevant steps in advocating for patient and family care needs while undertaking my roles as a family nurse practitioner.

I also want to gain knowledge and expertise in caring for patients of all ages and different conditions with utmost professionalism. My long-term goal is to combine my experience in a variety of nursing settings and patient care and the FNP training to help improve patient and family care in a variety of settings both in health institutions and at home. I also want to advance in my career in clinical leadership positions so that I can be able to provide my expertise and impart knowledge as a leader in nursing practice.

Nursing@Simmons is the best fit for me because it will enable me realize both my short-term and long-term goals by enabling me to work and train at the same time meaning that I will be able to combine my experience and training for the benefit of the patient. I will be able to gain immensely from Nursing@Simmons because of its expertise in training and organizational repute.ReferenceFreed, G. L., Dunham, K. M., Loveland-Cherry, C., & Martyn, K. K. (2010).
