ENJOYMENT OF MUSIC Enjoyment of music is felt in diverse fields and has a very close relationship with computer science.Computer scientists and artists are said to have very similar traits in their field which makes the Computer scientists enjoy and appreciate the artistic harmony in music. Musicians are more often thrilled by the technicality of their hardware devices like the piano, saxophone, drums which are often interfaced with other devices from the computer such as amps, mixers, mutes. Computer scientists are more engaged in the creation of the harmony and uniqueness of sound from the sound of the hardware devices produced by the musician. This helps the musician in achieving different tunes for the song through amplification, mixing and muting some beats. My enjoyment of music has more to do with the appreciation of the technical thinking behind the music as opposed to discrete aptitudes of the musician. I appreciate music in its spatial and temporal reasoning nature such as the ability to visualize the sounds produced by the violin in both time and space. This enhances my reasoning ability to reason which is mostly important my career filed. The spatial temporal aspects of music ensure that I develop higher brain function in the creation of such structures for computer programming. This is because, for me to construct a good program, I should be able to construct it in my head by totally visualizing it and its consequences of the total output, by progression like in music, as opposed to doing a line by line of the code. Appreciation of music is highly felt on the beats produced by the different instruments. The fact that artists are able to differentiate the different types of instruments being played even without seeing them and even when they are very many is very inspiring in computer science. The specifics of such instruments can be impacted on computers such as the ability to readily distinguish sounds when every drum vibrates at specific frequencies by arranging and designing the drums according to tension, size, shape and composition. The wide spectrum of frequencies and pure tones produced by vibrating membranes inspires the production of such nodes in computers. Music uses codes as a form of expression. In its abstract nature, music requires interpretation and performance in order to relay the message. The written codes in music have more meaning than the surface meaning. Likewise, computer programmers also use codes to express themselves. My ability to read through the musical codes presented in music is very enjoyable as it motivates me to be able to read and express myself through computer codes. The concept of variety and unity is effectively applied to the musical themes. Unity gives music a deep feeling of familiarity and at the same time achieves variety by incorporating several musical instruments. The use of the piano as the main instrument in most songs especially at the beginning creates harmonious feel which creates a lot of harmony at the beginning of the song as a solo. Different sound sources such as the saxophone, trumpet, piano, drums and clarinet add variety to music as they produce different levels of sounds in music. The concept of variety and harmony in computer science is appreciated in the development of programs which are varied in by uniqueness but still can have unity. The dynamics of music are also appreciated in computer science. The song uses dynamics to achieve unity and variety in sound volumes. The dynamics of music introduce music in different tones than those which progress it. For example, music opens softly at the beginning with a piano solo in a rather slow note which creates unity. Alternate low and high keys of the piano are used until towards the end of the music where it becomes very loud. Many instruments can be heard at the peak with an upbeat tune. Dynamics achieves variety and unity by using a variety of instruments at different points and repetition. In computer science, this is very inspiring in the production of programs which use the common codes to achieve diversity. There is music theory in computers where timbre is used to create diverse sound sources. For example, music can start by playing solo with the piano and then adding of background instruments which adds tempo to the song. There can also addition of other instruments throughout the song such as the introduction of the trumpet, the saxophone in the background, the drum and the clarinet in the background. Timbre is also able to achieve variety and harmony in music. Timbre can be implemented in computer programming where more component of variety is added to the programs to make them sound unique. Pitch is relatively more in music but it is mostly used in computers where notes are regulated to produce high tones and low tones to achieve harmony in the music. The use of high and low notes in music has been very effective in the creation of variety. For example, this can be achieved by starting music with a relative high note which progresses for approximately a minute before it lowers. The note then raises and lowers again within a span of seconds. The constant alternation of low and high notes which merge at the peak with all the instruments playing at their highest note produces such an inspiring harmony. The raising and lowering of the sound creates a variety which makes it more enjoyable especially in by computer scientists as this can be implemented into programs. Rhythm and Musical texture are other aspects of music which I consider enjoyable in my career field. In rhythm, one is required to maintain high levels of concentration. As much as people think that it is very easy to create rhythm, my appreciation helps me realize it takes dedication, talent and hard work to create rhythm in music. Rhythm is achieved by focusing on the duration of a variety of sounds used in music creation. This is more of creativity than memorization. For example, unity can be achieved at the beginning of music by prolonging the use of the piano and the slow rate at which the notes of the song rise and fall. The speed of the beat is maintained low at the beginning of the song but very high at the climax where both speed and volume are high. The tempo may be used to create variety which gives such music a memorable feel. We can also create music appreciation by using a homophonic texture where the melodies of the music can be heard in varying notes at the same time. The texture of the music may increase with the progress of the music with more instruments being added which creates different melodies. Practicing music and familiarization with all the musical elements which give success to a musical feels is very like what computer scientists experience. When you learn musical codes and apply them to music, they create the beauty in the music by diversifying the feel. The same case applies to computers. When you create a computer program or you write several codes, you start appreciating the beauty in the created programs. The beauty of such programs is what lies behind the scenes where the programmer does not know or feel, but with the appreciation of variety and unity concepts in music, a programmer will be able to appreciate the diversity and beauty of the codes overly. Music adds a lot of insights in computer science. With the advancement of technology, it is very easy for musician to write their codes in computers and produce the beats and rhythm in the computer. This makes the knowledge and appreciation of music inevitable for computer programmers as they will need to maintain harmony, unity and variety of all the instruments in the song the natural way. The learning of such codes and musical elements enables us to appreciate music more. Read More
