There is a need for their conspicuous location, proper maintenance, and periodic inspection. If personnel is responsible for using a fire extinguisher in case of a fire incident, such personnel needs to have adequate training in fire suppression, familiarize themselves with the location of fire extinguishers, and demonstrate competency towards the task.

Individuals need to keep one or several fire extinguishers in their households. They play a crucial role within the household because by minimizing property damage and safeguarding life (Burke, 2007). Power interruptions can have detrimental effects on numerous households. The situation necessitates the need to have at least one fire extinguisher in the house because it will assist greatly in minimizing damage. Households that depend on firefighters to control fire incidents suffer increased risks because they may take a while to arrive at the scene.

The situation implies that more damage will occur than when an individual would otherwise have tried to contain the situation with a fire extinguisher. They assist in controlling fire before it gets out of control thereby minimizing the resultant damage. It does not make sense in having a fire extinguisher at home and yet lack the technique and skills necessary to operate it. Therefore, individuals must have adequate knowledge of the use of fire extinguishers as well as safety measures.

An individual trained to suppress a fire incident is aware of how to hold the equipment with the nozzle pointing away from the individual and aiming low. Essentially, learning how to use fire extinguishers equips an individual with essential skills on how to use the equipment correctly in case of any fire incident. Burke (2007) affirms that learning how to control the fire before it gets out of control will play a vital role in safeguarding lives and minimizing the amount of property destroyed.

Knowledge of refilling fire extinguishers ensures that an individual is well prepared to offset fire incidents as opposed to waiting for firefighters who might take time to arrive at the scene. Conclusion The response time for firefighters is approximately fifteen minutes. Within this time, an individual can lose belongings, business documents, and other imperative documents for good, and the total of all these damages can accumulate to millions. Personal control of the fire incident would have eliminated the resultant damages largely. This situation necessitates the need for every household to have a fire extinguisher.
