Case Study Analysis Case Study Analysis Introduction Teamwork and responsibility are contributing factors to the success of a business organization. Increased competition in the business sector has led to the adoption of various strategies at workplaces. Felps, Mitchell, and Byington (2006) wrote, “Organizations are increasingly relying on the work tam model to capture efficiencies and create the value…” (p. 176). The case study explains more pros of group dynamics at the workplace with the companys success being the primary advantage. However, the main problem in the case study is the ineffective cooperation and responsibility among the team members. The group dynamic theory highlights on the social and psychological changes that come up in workplaces (David and Frank 2000). It helps in the comprehension of behaviours that come up due to team or group work in businesses. Communication styles play a significant role in the interpersonal relationships that emerge in workplaces. The bonds among workers contribute directly to the success or failure of the company. “…the success of an organization can depend on the levels of team work it employs” (Hartley & Bruckmann, 2008, p.311). Felix is a new employee who has social problems. He does not relate well with other employees and the company manager claims that his character is affecting the profits. Lack of teamwork has contributed to the failure of the company since it has not acquired the set goals and objectives. The main setback is the lack of communication skills and interpersonal relationships at the work place. Felix is competent, but “Developing sending skills meets only half the requirements for communicating effectively” (David & Frank, 2000, p. 147). He does not want to join groups and causal office conversation, is considered as a loner, and does want to share ideas with other employees. The employer considers his behaviour as a setback to the company because he cannot blend in with other employees. Teamwork requires that all members help each other to overcome problems that emerge in the business. “Groups and teams have assumed greater prominence in organisations in the past few decades…” (Eunson, 2005, p. 566). According to the dynamic theory, it insists on teamwork among employees since interpersonal relationships help in the growth of the business. “Members of groups act together to achieve common aims or goals” (Eunson, 2005, p. 567). However, Felix does not socialize outside the workplace. He is seen not contributing to fellow employees debates while they are having a drink. Employees on the upper levels of management find it hard to create bonds with him. Teamwork ensures that opinions are shared among employees in various departments. It also prevents cases of personal interest since members act as watchdogs. Based on the theory, teamwork helps to workers to highlight problems and weaknesses at the workplace. It also caters for workers rights since they are able to share and act as a group without the fear of losing their jobs. Felixs problem can be solved using several solutions. His socializing skills may be improved through training sessions where he is exposed to other employees. The training program will help him overcome fear for getting into causal relations with workers. Providing a detailed statement on the advantages of socializing at the workplace will help him work improve his skills. The employer states that he has all the qualifications for his job description, but he cannot make it without socializing with other employees (Forsyth 2010). Work productivity should be graded according different teams. Felix should be issued with a team where he has to be accountable for its success. Felixs communication skills may also be improved through acceptance and understanding of the benefits of teamwork in a business organization. The manager should issue him with information on the relation between teamwork and success of the firm. It will help Felix improve his communication skills. In some cases, Felixs problem may be resolved by proving him with a mentor or counsellor who will motivate him in his work. The other workers should also be advised to accept his behaviour, and try to encourage changes in him during socialization sessions. Teamwork may be enhanced by issuing coaching sessions and rewards to employees. Felix should be included in trainee meetings that provide the required data on the benefits of group norms. Rewards are used to motivate workers that contribute most through ideas and brainstorming in groups. Group dynamic theory comprises various concepts that should be considered before embracing teamwork in organizations. However, there are additional costs that come up due to this strategy. The rewards may cost the firm more funds leading to lower profits. However, the benefits of teamwork are high as compared to the cost of rewards and employee training. The company should adopt the strategy in case they employee a worker with Felixs personality. After formation of groups, they should be maintained by communicating on different feelings and opinions among the workers. It prevents cases of individual driven leadership styles. Cohesiveness among groups may be enhanced in various ways (Forsyth 2010). The company should increase the goal limits and time spent by members. Increasing more time that Felix has with his fellow employees will have positive impacts on the productivity of the company. In some cases, increasing a groups status at the workplace will lead to more individuals joining the group. The company should also stimulate competition among groups since it will help in motivation of the employees. It will also lead to advanced communication skills such as the use of social networks. Conclusion Teamwork in workplaces should be campaigned for since it helps in increasing yields. The group dynamic theory has created a base for the formation of beneficial groups in businesses. Felix is just an example of the many employees who do not find the need of joining groups at their workstations. It should be embraced in companies to help improve employee interpersonal relationships. However, groups should only be formed with the idea of the company’s success instead of personal differences.
