Lorax the Movie Introduction The Lorax is a 3D musical, American computer-animated comedy film, which is based on Dr. Seuss book for children of similar name. The movie develops the book by expounding on the Ted’s story, the boy who pays the Once-Ler a visit and is not named in the television special and the book. Beyond the pure, hilarious entertainment value that the movie has, there are probably too many facts and realities for the society to put up with. I dispute the idea that it is a children’s movie, based on the moment in the film when Ted, the main character expresses his romantic attraction to Audrey. The movie may be an animation, but it has been geared to be of interest to both adults and kids. In my opinion, this movie ought to be for ages 9 and above. There are plenty of lessons and layers packed into the vibrantly and cheerfully colored, animated package. Plot Ted, who is the main character, decides to try to find a genuine Truffula tree to make an impression on a girl called Audrey. They reside in a city called Thneedville, which is encircled by a cement wall where every person has to buy air in bottles. In Thneedville, there exists no soil and no living thing except the inhabitants and their pets. Every person is jovial, and everything is not genuine. A tiny man called O’Hare, who is the city’s head honcho, sells the air. He plays the film’s evil villain since any steps forward toward going back to nature would mean the end of his riches. In pursuit of Ted to locate the Truffula tree, he has to venture in the city’s exterior and talks to the Once-Ler, whose story constitutes the bulk of the plot line of this movie. As a young man, the Once-Ler begins to argue that his fortune makes thneeds, which he fashioned from the Truffula trees’ tufts. After chopping down the first tree, he comes across the Lorax, who speaks on behalf of the trees, and tells him that he must not chop them down because this would cause the wrath of nature to stumble upon him. The Once-Ler in due course promises not to bring down any more trees and tries unproductively to sell his product. Finally, in a dumb luck’s stroke, the society makes a decision that a thneed is, in fact, great, and all of a sudden every person must have one. The enterprise develops, and all the trees are cut. With the natural world scraped, the people must depend on bought clean air and stay inside the city’s walls. Towards the story’s ending, the Once-Ler comprehends the meaning behind the last message from Lorax and offers Ted a gift of the last Truffula seed in anticipation of planting it and re-developing the forest. The desire of Ted to impress Audrey is now a personal task to remind his town of nature’s importance. Enter Ted, who obtains the last Truffula seed from the Once-Ler after having his own eco-conversion, is determined to make known corporate corruption, save the earth, and win the heart of Audrey. (Www.kitchenstewardship.com). Casts The casts in the movie did not participate physically in the movie since it was an animation. In stead, they input their voices in the place of the animated casts. One of the main casts is Danny DeVito as the Lorax, an irritable yet delightful orange creature with a large moustache. Ed Helms as the Once-Ler is the other main cast. He is the man who narrates how his Truffula forest’s discovery as a younger man caused its depletion. The other main cast is Zac Efron as Ted, an unrealistic 12 year old boy, who is named after the book’s author. The other character brought in the film is Audrey, an older girl and Ted’s love interest, who is voiced by Taylor Swift. There is also Grammy Norma, Ted’s grandmother, who is voiced by Betty White, and Aloysius OHare, who is voiced by Rob Riggle. O’Hair is the "OHare Air" company’s head and mayor of Thneedville. The other casts include; Jenny Slate as Mrs. Wiggins, who is Teds mother, Stephen Tobolowsky as Uncle Ubb, Nasim Pedrad as the Once-Lers mother, Elmarie Wendel as Aunt Grizelda, the Once-Lers uncle, the Once-Lers aunt, Danny Cooksey as Brett, and Chet, brother to the Once-Ler. Conclusion Lorax is a good movie, and the acting was top notch. I liked every aspect that the movie portrayed from start to the end. I like the fact that the movie is watchable to adults, as well as children. It is an animated film that has a lot of lessons which adults can also learn from it. Children as well can learn core values of life even as they are being entertained, and thus gain lessons in character development at a tender age. I also like the fact it talks about the things that actually take place in our world and lives today. It shows how things like greed and evilness can serve to bring harm to the people of a particular region. Generally, it is a movie that has more lessons in it as compared to most popular screen movies of today. It has a lot of lessons which if are taken into consideration, can really make our lives better, and bring more successes to us. (Www.squidoo.com). Finally, the movie has a joyful ending wherein the entire animals return. I also like the 3D animation that the movie has, and the bright colors used all through the film. One thing that I dislike in the movie is the fact that some contents might be of concern to many parents. An example of a scene like this is the scene where Ted envisions that he finds a tree for the birthday of Audrey, and she gives him a short kiss of appreciation before all her guests at the party (the imaginary kiss is very innocent and short). Another dislike I have is on the portrayal of the treeless and desolate forest. To me, it is a bit gloomy and dark. In addition to this, some of the characters who are animated are momentarily shown playing outside in nothing other than bathing suits. Some of those bathing suits are actually bikinis, and this may be of concerns to parents. Also, the character of the Lorax character which was played a “tree god” that emerged from the heavens to save the trees, seemed to me to be in articulation of the Universe’ God. I also feel that, for Catholics, they would not be pleased about the fact that there was a nun thrown in the mix of demented people. According to me, this was completely odd and needless. (http://christiananswers.net). What I agree with in the movie Lorax is the idea that the world and our livelihood would be difficult and complicated if we destroy nature. The fact that this world cannot survive without nature is a point that I am in complete agreement with. I also agree the idea that the movie tried to bring about Ted being willing to do anything just to fulfill his desires. I agree with this because I know that when someone is passionate about achieving something, he will do anything possible to attain it. One disagreement I have is the idea that air is being bought in bottles by the inhabitants of Thneedville. The other one is the illusion that the city was completely surrounded by cemented wall. That, to me is quite impossible, if not crazy. The final disagreement I have is the fact that the inhabitants of Thneedville were all able to survive with the scarcity of air in their city, and with only bottled air. What affected me personally were the scenes where people were struggling due to the depleted nature. I was affected to think of how we could suffer as a result of nature being destroyed in our world. Yes, the movie has changed my views of this world a great deal. Firstly, it has showed me how important it is to stand up for the Earth. After watching the movie, I now clearly understand environmental awareness and its significance. It has made me see how important conversations regarding environmentalism, nature, extinction and a lot more, are. I also learn that nature destroyed by nothing other than people’s greed. The world would be a much better place if only people did not let their greed get the better part of them. Above all, it has made me see that we can indeed change the World together. (Www.squidoo.com). This movie has had a huge impact on how I view my own life. It has offered me a lot of inspiration concerning hope, which to me is an important thing to have in life. It has also showed me how imperative it is to pardon others no matter what wrong they might have done to us. It has made me see that one individual can make a difference. All it takes is determination and passion to do or achieve something. In life, there is always a reward for persistence. I now know that we have to nature the spirit of persistence within ourselves, for us to progress in whatever we do. Furthermore, we ought to admit mistakes and then move past them.
