 Managers are known to be authoritative within their working domains following a significant pattern of control over their subordinates and the processes that take place under the police management aegis. Compare and contrast personal and positional power Personal power comprises of an individual’s personality while positional power is related more closely with the control and authority that his profession brings to the fore (Gottschalk, 2011).

The personal power is dependent on how well he is linked up with the people while positional power is his exertion of responsibility that has been bestowed upon his entirety. 2. What can a police manager do to exert power? A police manager can make use of the authority that has been given to him to show and exert his power. He can make use of the rules and regulations to make sure that everyone accepts his power in the first place. The police manager will have to coordinate with his subordinates in such a way that his power is transferred across the chain.
