Operation Iraqi Freedom Logistics, Strategy and Support Introduction Operation Iraqi Freedom is identified as one of the leading logistics and provision efforts as from the earlier conflict which occurred in March 2003. When operation Iraqi Freedom started, $14.2 billion was responsible for more than half of the original budget of $28.1 billion used to start operating maintenance. The effort of the operating support was to disperse the notion of the cold war which stated that more is better that nothing. The Army has since then worked on a modified distribution-based system of the logistics. This system was preferred so that it could work in the operation Iraqi Freedom. The distribution based logistics did not function smoothly, as it was expected when the US group went to Iraqi for the first time (Peltz, Halliday, and Girardini, 2005). Variety of problems needed to be addressed and they included insufficient logistics employees, reduced asset visibility, lack of proper communication, and inadequate provision of transportation materials. Although, with time the Army has persistently continued to change the supply process and has advanced the materials used so that the distribution based logistics system can become more successful. Initial logistics in the operation Iraqi freedom It was evident that when operation Iraqi freedom begun, the department of defense did not have the supply capability to set up and manage the majority of distribution and tools in theater. The principal factor that led to the issues of distribution in the operation Iraqi freedom was insufficient war service maintaining staff in the theater. Most of the units in the war service sustenance are reserved and, therefore, need almost 90 to 120 days to activate and deploy the operation Iraqi freedom. To prevent the training division over the December 2002 festive season, the conclusion was decided so that there is a delay in some of the recruitment of operation Iraqi freedom (Amaal and Judi, 2007). Because of this reason, majority of the army and the aquatic service logistics staff, did not prepare to the theater till the time when the warfare troops entered and the significant warfare operations were in progress. At the time, when the warfare service maintaining staffs were in the theater, defense supply of food and extra parts in various units were exhausted and meals that were ready for consumption stocks in the maintaining storehouse were not as much for the day in the operation Iraqi freedom. This led to the crippling beginning of the distribution based logistics system in the stage during operation Iraqi freedom. Reduced distribution of transportation materials contributed to the supply issues in the initial stage of operation Iraqi freedom. Even after the delivery of supplies further delays were experienced in the supply of materials to the other units because of insufficient quantities of materials of transportation in the operation Iraqi freedom. Insufficient warfare service maintenance staff in the stage at the initial stage of the operation Iraqi freedom also showed that there could be a lack of goods trucks that could be used to supply the goods. A concrete communication system is extremely significant in the operation of a distribution based logistics system, in order to get a concrete logistical knowledge of incoming communication and communication to the outside environment must be present. Effective communication makes certain that chief officers are informed of the types of supply flow matters that may come up. As operation Iraq operation commenced, communication was extremely poor. Ineffective association and communication between the military and the defense logistics agency brought about an intensive workload in the arena. KBR was one of the agencies that supplied these services to the Iraqi government. KBR also provides organization logistics maintenance services at various sites in Iraqi. The DynCorp agency has offered police counselors to the Iraqis (Peltz, Halliday, and Girardini, 2005). DynCorp international installed, sustained and provided U.S law implementation personnel to offer police existence, boost the security of the public and help in re instituting the national police of Iraqi by providing effective training to the police. The liberation of Iraqi permitted the Defense Logistics Agency to demonstrate the current improvement, which included recent commercial practices, higher logistician engagement in planning; skills for inventory follow up and on site combat zone coordination. The Halliburton was contracted by Iraqi to provide them with emergency services. Demobilization and withdrawal of Iraq The president of the United States proclaimed that by the end of August 2011, all the U.S warfare operations for the fight in Iraq, otherwise known as Operation Iraqi Freedom should end their mission in Iraq but the armed personnel presently in Iraq should stay there until the end of the Iraqis elections to be held in January 2010. The U.S administration will have to remove the armed personnel from Iraq in two phases. The legislature budget office estimated two extensive categories of expenditures under the managements plan and under different substitutes. Some of the costs include incremental armed forces staffs attributable to combat in Iraq and expenses for fuel, transportation and sustenance of equipment in Iraq could reduce in proportion with the amount of service members in the country. Conclusion This study demonstrates the usage of supply based logistics in the Operation Iraqi Freedom. At the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom, various factors led to the reduced action of the distribution based logistics system. These factors included insufficient communication system, poor material visibility and scarcity of the warfare maintenance service staff. A lot of information collected has made the conclusion that the general efforts were reserved within the negligible satisfactory levels so that the military had the ability to carry out operations as arranged (Amaal and Judi, 2007). There are no straight operational results from a supply deficit that have been identified whether in operation failure or a way of action that has been changed, although the stage of dangers rose above the placate level of warfare chief officers and the troops.
