In transformational leadership, one individual takes control and makes the group reach its collective goals. In transformational leadership, the leader creates a shared vision and all those who follow him succeed in the context of achieving long-term objectives. There are four different components of transformational leadership.
In transformational leadership, a leader motivates his or her followers to show creativity. He always urges them to come up with new ideas and appreciates them for doing that.
In this style of leadership, the leader motivates each follower to perform up to his potential. He councils each follower, provide guidelines and monitor his performance. A leader communicates openly in this style and shares ideas freely with the followers.
Leaders can develop not only a shared vision but motivate employees to show the same passion and enthusiasm to achieve objectives.
Transformational leaders become ideal and real models for their followers. He needs to be precise in his acts and deals to exhibit exemplary behaviour constantly.
It is obvious that bringing a turnaround in the company and motivating people becoming role models for followers is the source of the prominent benefits of transformational leadership. In addition, the convincing style of leadership, leaders acting as role models and sharing a common vision are the positives upon which every organization would go to thrive. It is also a fact that every individual to different from other individuals and leaders caring for individuals also helps a great deal in guiding the organization on the path of success (McCrimmon, 2008).
The most prominent example of transformational leadership is Sam Walton, who uses to visit all Walmart stores across the United States and meet all the associates and executives of the company. He always encourages managers and professionals to share their ideas in an open and frank manner. Apart from sharing ideas, he always praised them and appreciated them for the good work they were producing. One can positively conclude that effective transformational leadership results in high performance and achievement of company objectives, beyond expectations (Hall et al, 2002). However, critics have repeatedly pointed out that in transformational leadership, styles become more important than substance. It should be the other way around substance should enjoy more value than personality.
Conclusively, the paper has discussed some of the significant aspects of leadership style, specifically transformational leadership that plays a crucial role in motivating individuals to accomplish certain objectives in a revolutionary manner. Although few experts (Bass, pp. 23-25, 2006) have criticized this leadership style as being a very non-realistic style, however, majority of studies (Bass, pp. 23-25, 2006) have shown positive outcomes in constructively motivating employees and individuals. It is an expectation that the paper will be beneficial for students, teachers, and professionals in better understanding of the topic.
