Technical Communication Assignment Job and the main message for the audience We as humans cannot remain ‘static’ rather should keep on moving throughout our lives, enhancing the prospects of better life. As we move from one place or stage to another exposing ourselves to different situations and avenues, it will bring in stability, confidence and other changes to our life. And one of the avenues, which will aid this process of ‘movement’, is the academic qualification and the resultant employment. An individual will select his/hers field of academic study based on the employment opportunities, that field will offer. But, individuals will mainly select the field, in which they are going to specialize and graduate; based on their interests and influences they imbibe. So, from the wide variety of fields or branches that will be available, the individuals will chose their field, specialize in it, ‘graduate’ in it and even ‘Master’ it, going through different stages. So, I James Peck, an estate agent also went through all these stages or part of these stages. Working in the property development sector, I have quite a good knowledge about my field and the job I do. As mentioned above, each of the individual will have an academic choice and career choice of their own, based on their interest, influences and also expected opportunities. If anyone is interested in my field of property development, or if anyone haven’t made their career choice, or if anyone wants to change their current choice to an estate agent, or even if anybody wants to know about the field of property development, as a general knowledge subject, my speech will be quite useful. Importantly, this speech could also be an influencing activity. Outline of the talk and development of main points To entice the listeners and make them attentive to my speech, I intend to plan the outline in a logical way. That is, firstly, I wanted to speak to them about their interests and influences in their childhood and during their school life. This is because; humans are mostly ‘made’ in their childhood and teenage years, before they enter their adulthood. Every human’s life will be composed of several stages, which are inter-linked. And, for every living individual in this world, who has lived long enough, the stage when they were young will be considered the crucial one. At that stage only, an individual’s life can take a turn, both in the positive as well in the negative direction. Positive direction in the sense, if the individual, when he/she was a juvenile concentrates on education, career, etc, their lives will be a successful one. Even if their parents or guardians also think in those positive lines, the children or the teenagers could have a very positive, constructive and happy childhood as well as adulthood. This positive childhood and school life will continue or reflect as a beneficial college life. Also, if a child or a slightly grownup teenager is ‘seeded’ by an interest in a particular field, he/she will try to develop it through different ways and also try to actualize it, in his/her adulthood. So, a thought that is ‘seeded’ into a young person’s mind could be outputted in his/hers choice of academics and career. That ‘seeding’ of thought could be initiated or influenced by the ‘system’, in which the individual lived. Most times individuals think and act based on what they see, hear, feel and live. That is, the individuals as young person will observe and also hear about various academic courses, the job opportunities the courses will generate, success of persons in certain fields (which could be their family member, friends, neighbours, or even any famous personalities of different field), etc, etc - and based on these processes only, they will select their educational preference for their college. Also, they will select a job which suits their character or mindset or their physical makeup. So, by briefing and rekindling the thought process about education and career that could have taken place in their childhood, I will strike an emotional rapport with them. In that state, it will be easy for me to raise another emotional issue of homes or houses, in which they would have stayed or even staying for a long time. By ‘inoculating’ how the homes, in which one would have lived in their childhood, will always hold a special place in one’s mind (if the happenings in that house bordered on happiness), I will try into bring the field of property development into the picture. So, after establishing a personal connection with the audience by using anecdotes from my own life about the attraction towards older homes, I will elucidate the beneficial facts about the career in property development. Then, I will concentrate on how the field of property development is growing and will also grow in the future, including the opportunities as online estate agents, whose number is on the raise since 2000 and with the advent of internet revolution. After ‘painting’ a nostalgic and bright picture about career in property development and, I intend to shift my speech to the educational qualifications and the practical experiences that may be needed to shine in the field of property development. The final focus of my speech will be on the nature of job and the benefits in terms of remuneration, career growth, etc, etc. Even though interest, influence and opportunities may decide the choice of career among individuals, most times the salary pack offered by the specific industries will entice the prospective employees. In that aspect also, estate agent will not be left behind as charges can vary from zero to £300 as non-refundable fees. Build a rapport with audience; include aspects of non-verbal communication and tone of voice A speech will be successful only if it reaches the mind of the listeners through their ears. But, on the other hand, only if the mind is ready or interested to ‘receive’ the speech, it can order the ear to transfer the speech to the brain. Also, if the eye ‘sees’ the person who was speaking, in a positive light, it can interest the brain, which in turn makes the ear listen to the speaker even more. So, for the speaker to reach the mind of the listeners, he/she has to make an all round ‘attack’ on the sense organs of the human body. So, apart from preparing a content rich speech and delivering it, I have to focus on non-verbal communication and tone of the voice. That is, in the process of speaking, facial expressions, eye contact, in total body language play a crucial part, as the audience receives the information spoken by the speakers visually as well. So, to establish an initial and quick rapport with the audience in the college, I should maintain a pleasant smiling face. Then, I should speak in a casual and relaxed way, which I may normally do with a known person, but at the same time, I should maintain a formal tone and expression. Importantly, I should try to establish eye contact with as much audience as possible because, if I focus on just one section of the audience or focus my view some where else, I cannot establish a quick rapport with the audience, because the audience will feel that the speaker is not speaking to them. So, if I maintain continuous eye contact while speaking to the audience, it will convey the message or information in a more telling way. Likewise, if I raise and lower my tone of the voice according to the content of the speech, it will have an immediate effect on the audience. That is, to stress certain important points of the speech, the tone can be used accordingly. Role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in workplace setting Any organized human activity, which is done in-group, will be constituted most times into an organization. Organization is a structure with a ‘collage’ of humans doing their allocated work under the management of a leader, for the benefit of the organization as well as them. These workers will normally do their allocated worker manually or with the aid of various information and communication technology tools. Through out the 20th century many technological products including Information Technology products were developed through out the world, which had and is still having applications in all spheres of human lives. Out of the many technological products, a good number is being used in many organizations including in property and construction industry. That is, from opening a simple door to carrying out advanced operations in the construction of buildings, technology has become an omnipresent entity in property and construction organizations, with the entire operations of companies hinging on the support provided by technology, particularly Information and communication Technology. This being the case, the incoming prospective employees have to fully equip themselves with the knowledge and skill of information and communication technology products. The training for them can be given in-house, with qualified staffs and all of them should be made comfortable while handing the products. Apart from the training, the prospective employees should be made to understand that the products are actually to aid them, not to make them nervous or afraid. All the products are not monsters but simple scientific products, whose functioning can be easily grasped, with constant and effective training. So, all the prospective employees of the property and construction field will be trained to handle the products with ease. Handout containing main points of the talk and additional details Choice of Academic and Professional career Choice will be based on interest, influence and opportunities Being an Estate Agent, I can provide quality information about the field Speech of mine can also be taken as an influencing factor, providing benefits Nature and Contents of the Speech Personal rapport is established by speaking about their career choices in young age Nostalgia and personal connection can be exhibited, by speaking about homes The picture is bright in the case of property and construction industry The educational qualification and practical experiences are needed There is slew of opportunities currently, and in future Quick rapport using non-verbal communication and tone of voice Brain, eye, ear, etc, should work with collusion and understanding Body language including eye contact should be positive Tone of the voice should be used appropriately Role of Information and Communication Technology products Employees use the products to complete works effectively, easily and quickly If training were given to prospective employees, they can handle the products with ease Websites for additional information http://www.rics.org.uk/default http://www.naea.co.uk/ Read More
