Electronic Engineering at a Community College My Preferred, School, Course and Educational Attainment I plan to transfer to either the University of California – Irvine or Riverside. My intended major is Electronic Engineering and alternate major is Computer Engineering. Back in ___, I took up computer programming in a vocational high school. After having completed the vocation course in computer programming, I have recently enrolled myself in Electronic Engineering (state the course) at a Community College. Since I need to work during night time and study during day time, I have managed to maintain my average GPA at 2.89. Previous Work Experiences and Achievements I have experienced working in an Internet Application Software design company between _______(state the year). The three years working experience I had with the company enabled me to improve my technical knowledge in computer including my soft skills not only when it comes to delivering a good public presentation with our target customers but also when it comes to negotiation with the customers and partly in dealing with my co-workers. After three years working with the company, I received a military notice to serve in the Navy of Taiwan for two years. In the Navy, I was trained as an electronic device repairman. Despite the lack of academic experience in the field of electronics, I have experienced being able to fix electronic gadgets with the help of my colleagues. Future Goals Since I enjoy the challenge associated with fixing electronic gadgets, I have decided to take up a course on Electronic Engineering. Aiming to have a better academic experience in my preferred course, I have decided to take the opportunity to transfer at the University of California. I strongly believe that having a better quality education will not only make me have sufficient knowledge on the basic electronic theories but also provide me a promising career path in the field of Electronic Engineering someday. Prompt # 2 Personal Background, Characteristics and Past Life Experiences As a child, I grew up in _____ (which country/state) together with my parents and three brothers and two sisters. My mother works in a nearby grocery store as a sales clerk whereas my father works in a car repair shop as mechanical engineer. Since I am the eldest child in the family, my parents has guided me to become an independent person at a very young age. As a person, I am known for being a very friendly and a career motivated person aside from a self-motivated and self-directed individual. My previous life experiences have molded me to have a very strong character and determination in life. As a student, I have always been very active when it comes to class discussion or being a part of school affairs. Despite the financial and academic pressure I received while I am in school, I managed to allocate some of my time for social events. Basically, I was born with a low-income family. Because of insufficient financial resources, I have learned to value the importance of having a stable career path at a very young age. For this reason, I have become self-supporting since I was a high school student. Due to the tough life experience I have gone through since I was a child, I have strengthened my skills not only when it comes to critical thinking but also my ability to solve problems, mediation, and decision-making. I have also managed to improve and strengthen my knowledge in computer programming including my communication skills as part of my previous job requirements. Special Skills and Talents Since I was 15 years old, I have already discovered my special talent when it comes to fixing motor cycles. Although I have not receive any formal education with regards to the technical matters concerning motor cycles, my desire to learn more about motor cycling assembly enabled me to be capable of repairing motor cycles by going through the process of trial and error. Because of my ability to fix motor cycles, some of my friends would gather and come over my place during weekends to see me concerning some technical questions they have with their motor bikes. Aside from my ability to fix motor cycles, the short training I have received from the Navy of Taiwan made me able to repair some electronic gadgets and devices through the assistance of my co-workers. Even though the short training that was provided to us enabled me to understand the basic principles behind electronic engineering, I managed to apply the basic theories into real-life case scenario. I strongly believe that not every person has this kind of special gift. This is primarily the reason why I have considered fixing motor bikes and electronic gadgets as one of my major accomplishment. I am not only proud of being able to help my friends with their bikes but also my co-workers at the Navy in Taiwan for being able to repair some important electronic gadgets to run the ship. My ability to fix motor bikes and electronic gadgets strongly reflects my determination and perseverance when it comes to work. Whenever I have fixed my mind into achieving certain goals in life, I have always exerted much effort to make sure that I get to accomplish my mission with an outstanding performance. Having a strong perseverance and determination are two of the most important personal characteristics that Electronic Engineering students need to have in order to enable them to become successful in going through the academic challenges associated with the course. Considering that Electronic Engineering course requires a lot of critical thinking and patience, I believe that my interest in the subject matter together with the qualities and characteristics I have as a person will enable me to successfully complete the course.
