Although antibiotics have made a significant difference in the prognosis for many infectious diseases that are caused by bacteria, viral diseases have substantially remained immune from any magic cures involving drugs and this means that prevention, arrest of transmission and a programming of the human immune system are the only viable alternatives that are available against such diseases which have caused enormous devastation throughout human history. This literature review presents an examination of the impact of socioeconomic conditions on prevalence of infectious diseases and poliomyelitis, which has had a history of having been responsible for enormous suffering in all parts of the world, is especially considered in the review.
