Collins Pine Welcome Letter The Collins Company Welcome new employee: Thank you for joining our team. We at the Collins Company wish to welcome you and give you a bit of background on our organization and its values and beliefs. Collins enjoys a strong and vibrant workplace culture based on the philosophy that our society must be continually monitored to remain sustainable. We have made a top-down commitment to ensure this principle is practiced at every level and in every way possible.
The Collins Company is a privately-held, family-owned enterprise which has been in operation since 1855. Over the past century and a half, the business has grown, in large part, due to our willingness to revise our operations as necessary. Our principles require that we work to create a healthy, viable Earth, in addition to a healthy, viable business, and in order to do so then we must risk change. Where once forests were abundant and lumber taken from them without regulation, our environment has changed and forestry work has demanded change, also. We take great pride in the fact that all three forests owned by Collins-Pennsylvania, Almanor, and Lakeview-have been independently certified by Scientific Certification Systems (SCS) in accordance with the principles and standards of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
Preserving our environment in order that our children and grandchildren may enjoy the natural beauty of our forests is the foundation of the Collins Company. The 295,000 acres of timberlands owned by the company are biodiverse, multi-layered, canopied forests. Each forest is self-sustaining and includes more wood today than it did over a century ago. They contain habitats of bald eagles, black bears, wild turkeys, rubber boas, beavers, great blue heron rookeries and the endangered Goose Lake redband trout. They are enhanced by meadows, and various water features including springs, creeks, rivers, and lakes. These forest are naturally healthy with trees grown only from a combination of sunshine, water, and nutrients from fertile soil. We believe in only cutting only new growth, allowing the old trees to stand in majesty.
The exceptional quality of our product is our key competitive advantage. Because our wood is certified, our product demands a higher price structure. As such, quality management is an integral part of our production process. We at Collins believe in producing an exceptional product of unequalled quality and our employees are expected to uphold this value.
All employees of Collins are required to receive training in what we refer to as the Natural Step. This training encompasses the ways in which we continually strive to keep our environment sustainable. Recycling of paper, glass, plastic and aluminum is performed at every level of the organization as well as energy and water conservation measures. At Collins, we believe in not just "talking the talk" but also "walking the walk" and we expect our employees to live up to the same standards we publicize and employ. We encourage our employees to undertake conservation and recycling efforts of their own and we welcome suggestions to improve our current efforts. We also participate in the Adopt-a-Highway and Adopt Humanity programs and hope that you will consider volunteering in these two important ventures.
We are proud of our many awards including the 2002 Governor's Award for Environmental Sustainability, the 2001 Environmental Excellence Award from Business Ethics Magazine and the 1997 Governor's Challenge of Change Awards. It is due to the hard work, diligence and ethical performance of our employees that we have been fortunate enough to maintain a business that continues to change, grow and evolve into an even better company in this century.
Sincerely,
James E. Quinn
President/CEO

...Dear Mr. Orwell, After reading your essay 'Shooting an Elephant,' I decided I must write you, to respond from my perspective as an Antiguan woman. Perhaps these generic black letters on white paper is the only way two people as different as we are can communicate, for I cannot but think I would still be another native in the crowd in person. How did you feel such animosity towards the people of Moulmein The reason they could not riot against the English military was because you made sure they had no firearms. What were they to do, throw themselves in front of bullets These people you willingly policed each and every day had families to support under the subsistence of Colonial rule, and could not die in such an act of futility... The New College Try: Letter to Editor

...Insert Your Insert Your First and s] [Insert Your [Insert [Insert Deadline] The New College Try: Letter to Editor [Insert Your University’s Mailing Address] [Insert Submission Deadline: Month Day, 2009] Letters to the Editor The New York Times 620 Eighth Avenue New York, NY 10018 Dear Editor: In his interesting contribution “The New College Try” published Sept. 24, 2007, Jerome Karabel argues, I would say, unconvincingly for a more “meritorious” admission procedures at our “selective” colleges and universities. His suggestion of a lottery program that would admit more underprivileged but highly performing students into colleges is at best unrealistic, if not unsystematic. According to Professor Karabel, a limited number of places...

New Labour In The United Kingdom

We can acknowledge the re-emergence of New Labour as a party of liberal policies, which is characterized as a belief in legal rights and duties towards a citizen, however, the party’s popularity has affected badly since 2001 for the criticism the new name with an unprecedented comment of ‘spin doctoring’ and ‘New Labour, New Danger’ has brought to it. (Wikipedia, Labour Party UK)
When we focus on the public sector response given to the New Labour’s political vision, it can be seen that New Labour’s public philosophy is a development of the socialist tradition in response to specific dilemmas conceived largely in terms associated with the New Right. This factor should also be considere...

The Retail Clothing Store New York and Company

I based this decision upon the knowledge that New York and Company usually holds sales of their own in conjunction with sales held at larger retailers. Although the store stayed pretty busy, I was able to get in a conversation with one of the store’s employees, the store manager and a frequent customer at the store.
With the volume of customers that come through their door, the store is structured as a formal organization in many ways. The salespeople within the store had to work together in a planned group in order to accommodate the customers that were coming in. Trying to assign one salesperson to each customer as some stores do would never have satisfied the need. These various salespeople had a relatively fixed str...

To What Extent Does the Concept of Emotional Intelligence Point Towards a New Means of Controlling Workers

Weber believed that ‘the specialized experts organized into smoothly functioning units by the bureaucratic managers would provide these elite managers with a decision-making ability foreign to the parliaments and the courts’ (Glassman et al., 1984, 5). However, in order for the role of managers within bureaucratic environments to be understood, it is necessary to proceed to a thorough examination to the structure and the characteristics of such an environment under normal social and political conditions.

Moreover, the acceptance of Weber’s views on bureaucracy has led to the assumption that bureaucracy (Fry, 1989, 41) ‘is not necessarily rational, it may not be efficient, that other forms of orga...

The Induction and Socialization of New Employees

Also, a sense of empathy seems to exist in the best organizations around the world since they think both from the organizational perspective as well as from the side of the employees who are going to give in their best and thus benefit the organization in the long run, not to forget do themselves a favor in terms of their future growth and exposure levels. However, all this is easier said than done since the problems do arise from time to time and it is significant that both the organization and the employee understand that they have to co-exist for the betterment of each other. No one of these two entities could exist in a vacuum and thus it is of paramount importance to understand the very same. The end results would be in terms...

The impact of Plant Disease on New Zealand

Transmission of PMTV occurs through inoculation of sap in 26 species belonging to Solanaceae or Chenopodiaceae and to Tetragonia expansa and also through grafting (A. Reavy., W. Kashiwazaki., & Barker,1995 ). In some cases, PMTV is known to be transmitted by mechanical inoculation also.

Since PMTV is vectored only through S.subterranea the infection of plants with PMTV depends on the life cycle of S.subterranea which takes about 10-14 days. The life cycle of S.subterranean takes place in 2 phases: Phase I) This is the primary stage of the life cycle initiated with the germination of resting spores known as sporangiosori or cystosori persisting in the soil as spore balls with thick cell walls into zoosporangia. These...

The Launch of Kones New Product

Political: 90% of Kone’s sales come from international markets. This makes it very vulnerable to political stability in its global markets for example Italy is one of the markets of Kone and elevator regulations are governed in Italy by parliament. Thus, to bring MonoSpace i.e. an elevator without a machine room in compliance with standards, it would require an act by the parliament.
Economical: The performance of the elevator industry is directly proportional to the performance of the construction industry. The construction industry has a maximum potential in developing countries rather than in developed countries. The reason for this is that the developed countries have maximized their growth potential whereas the dev...

However, Christian was interested only in the arts and mostly in fashion (YourNewFragrance, 2004). Even as a child he was interested in the life of the artisan community (Hirst, n.d.). His parents did not allow him to pursue studies at the Academy of Fine Arts and he was forced to enroll at the Faculty of Political Science. Comparing the Brave New World and Todays World

... A Brave New World 26 February Introduction Man has always wondered since time immemorial about his ultimate place in the big universe. He had attempted to find meaning in this scheme of things without much success. A key repeated theme is seeming failure to find that true meaning that will justify his existence. What usually happens is that the more Man goes deeper into the search for ultimate meaning, the more he finds nothing. This is confounding, to say the least, and goes to show how useless the search could be. Many people had been doing this search several times and came up with nothing. Out of this seeming hopelessness and uselessness came the philosophical idea of the absurd – that Mans search for individual meaning is bound...
