The ordinary citizens may rest assured that there is a highly well-trained pool of military personnel, to protect them from all types of internal and external aggression, especially more so in contemporary times, when Western democracies are on the radar of international terrorist organizations.

Secondly, in a globalized world, the UK being a thriving economy has business and diplomatic interests all over the world. A standing military not only acts as a deterrent to the groups and nations, hostile towards the UK but also allows the nation to militarily intervene if the need be. In the emerging world order, with a plethora of rogue states like Iran and North Korea, which have or are trying to have access to weapons of mass destruction, the UK military has a major role to play in assuring peace and safety at an international level.

Though the Western military deployments are projected to be withdrawn in the coming years, the UK military is still left with a major role to be played in disseminating democracy, education, and development in these war-torn nations.
