Carnegie also argued that her joint movements were extremely poor. Additionally, she also gave other symptoms, which she presumed were unrelated to the ailment such as tiredness, a fever-pitch temperature, night sweats and breathlessness as well as a loss in weight even though she had increased her food intake. Ms Carnegie said that the symptoms had started about a month ago and were deteriorating by the day.

Not long ago, a patient had come to me and inquired with vaguely the same complaints. We initially assumed the clotting that would be resolved soon. However, this patient complained of pain within her upper arm bone, which was relatively near her shoulder. Regardless, the patient cited the same symptoms as Ms Carnegie. The first step taken to investigate the matter was to take her to the laboratory and conduct a few blood tests, which proved unsuccessful. However, she was then sent to a screening room, where x-rays of her body were taken, and evidence of sarcoma was viewed all through her body. She was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, commonly known as the sarcoma of the bone.

Like many cancers, the cause was unknown. However, genetics was seen as a key factor when considering such concerns. Arguably, no known symptoms of the disease are known and hence most people hypothesize that it is a cancer, which can be treated if detected early.

The patient was lucky to have come in at the right time. The best treatment approach taken was either chemotherapy or radiotherapy. However, the use of antibiotics proved unsuccessful, and the only prescription drugs given were pain relievers.

When asked if such cases had happened in their family before, Carnegie argued that reports of joint pains have been evident in her aunts and uncles but had never been a problem to the immediate family. She also said that most of her peers and her social groups did not think it was a major case, and most had told her that it was a mere bruise that would heal in a week, but it had taken more than a month and the case had only worsened. When asked what she thought was the problem, she argued it was just a joint problem because she plays basketball, it might have been a mere hitch in the knee joints. She was, however, lucky that her admission was not when the case was very severe.

Having seen a similar case, I feared for the worst, believing it was a form of cancer since the swelling was characterized by a hard interior, which suggested it was a tumour. However, I also hoped that it was a mere lymphatic node swelling that would be resolved in a short time, but was largely pessimistic about the latter being the case. I believe that this is a case of cancer, but I might be wrong. As such, after we conduct an x-ray, we hope to give her the best treatment possible and place her on radiotherapy or chemotherapy depending on how much cancer has spread and monitor her closely by placing her in our support group within the hospital. If Ms Carnegie proves unresponsive to the treatment options, we might refer her to a much better-equipped hospital for further treatment.

I would love to research more about Osteosarcoma, know how it is diagnosed understand why it affects tall people more than shorter people and explore as much existing literature as possible.
